job done

That's the trouble. That's the sum of our ambition. Not to get beat and to nick a goal

It's what most teams want from an away game in Europe.

Not to mention we aren't bringing a knackered, exausted 11 back in 3 days to try and beat Newcastle.

Isn't that the ambition of most teams away in Europe, no matter who they are?  Can't see why you have a problem, personally.

Because it is genuinely the best we could do.

damon, stunned by that comment to be honest. We achieved numerous goals tonight; the result, players rested, players/manager gaining valuable experience being just a few. It was the very epitomy of job done.

And then the best we'll be able to do next week is win the match and thus the tie.  Again, where's the problem.

I don't understand how any Villa fan can be upset with that.

I'd say good result, average performance. But ultimately all that matters is the result, so i'm happy.

Am I the only person who noticed that our avowed aim in this competition is to let reserve and youth team players get a game?

In that context, sure,  1-1 in Vienna is a great result. Crack open the champagne.

Reserves and youth need games, to see If they are any good....

we drew, scored a goal....    on wards and upwards
