Must say I wasn't happy with the booing and didn't join in with it. He's a decent keeper who made one mistake in a game that England didn't lose. Will those players who did a lot more to damage their country's chance in the World Cup, by being crap and not caring, recieve a similar reception?
I thought the way our fans gave Jimmy his send off shows what great fans we have. He has been fantastic for us and deserved his ovation.
I haven't had time to read what others have said but I had a great day on Saturday. My thoughts:I thought the team were superb. Albrighton had a fantastic full league debut, Carew caused them bother all afternoon, Young looked he did two years ago.We played with a freedom we have seen precious little of in recent years. We passed it well, we had great movement off the ball and we did stick with tactics of lump it long or fire the ball in quickly from the wings.Clark was interesting to watch. To see a kid of that age start telling others around him where they ought to be was a very pleasant surprise for me.It was nice to see the ovation Milner got and what a good reflection that is on our much derided fans.It was like we had our club back. No more "Martin O' Neills Aston Villa" but plain old Aston Villa. The one where you didn't have to shit yourself about saying what you thought for fear of upsetting the manager and his arch defenders. It was the first time that I had been to a game in a long while where I didn't know what the starting line up or formation was likely to be.We pummelled them. It could have been ten. The team played like they had been set free from some kind of shackles that had been holding down. I can't remember a more comprehensive opening day win in a long, long time. Then it was back to The Bartons. The company was great, it was nice to catch up with people and the beer was as good as usual. So many faces I hadn't seen in some time and all of us happy. I can't recall the last time I saw Mike Jeffries skip into the pub let's put it that way.I got home suitably pissed and enjoyed reading the fanzine yesterday afternoon. If it is a case that we cannot win things, and sixth is about as good as it gets, then I don't mind so much if we do it trying to play football like that. We won't win every game but it will keep me coming back.
On the flipside of the cracking performance on Saturday, did anyone think that Dunney's put a bit of weight on?

And yet, Carew was our top scorer last season.

Were you selling over the road from Dave Woodhall? That was where I bought my copy, and thought I hadn't seen the seller before.Yes that was me, drafted in as a late replacement!
