Although I don't think Houllier would be a bad appointment, I have a feeling this process is going to rumble on for a fair while yet.

We keep hearing people are hot favourites to be appointed, then nothing happens for a few days and they start to   drift.

It is intriguing stuff, but I still think they'll probably appoint soneone out of the blue, someone we have barely mentioned.
If reports are to be believed, it's just a case of Houllier talking it over with his family who understandably have concerns due to his history of health problems (and the fact he's crap in the transfer market).

As an aside whatever happened to Jean Tigana, he was rated as the next big thing whilst at Fulham and then seemed to disappear of the face of the earth.

Guy, our recruitment policy for money spent has been average at best.
If you compare it to Houllier's whilst at Liverpool, MON's purchase history was superb.

But at Lyon he brought in some very good players, so hopefully he has learnt.

He also swapped Carew for Baros.

If you don't mind me saying I think Houllier would be an excellent appointment. Vastly underrated manager, tactically spot on and builds good relationships with the players. If it wasn't for his heart problems he would have won the title with us and he'll give you a much better shot at breaking into the top 4 than O'Neil.

True, but I still think Baros with his head in the right place is a good player. He did score some important goals for us and he has a great record in Turkey now.

Is now manager at Bordeaux. Which seems quite a big job given his only job since Fulham was 2 years at Besiktas.

I get the impression we are trying to convince ourselves this would be a good appointment.  £100m spent at Liverpool in a time when £100m was a shedload of cash and expected therefore to win the league and he didn't come close to it.

They went close one season, 01/02 when Arsenal won it I'm sure they were in contention until last couple of weeks. There's no doubt they went backwards after that and he became a bit of a joke. I won't be entirely happy with him, in fact if it was one of our rivals appointing him I'd probably have a good laugh but we've got to try and pick out the positives.

I think it could be a good appointment as long as everyone knows their roles. We all assume KM is going to be involved some how and that he wouldn't appreciate someone like Houllier butting in. For all we know KM could of spoken to randy and highlighted part of the job which his not looking forward to or not too shit hot at if he were to take on the role. Randy's solution to that could of been to bring in a DoF and allow KM to concentrate on what he does best.

Again this is assuming Houllier is coming in as a DoF and not a manager. We'll soon be finding out

Thanks Reina. Interesting to hear it from a Liverpool perspective. There seems to be concerns on the site about some of his transfers (altho he also seems to be credited with building your Champions League winning team under Benitez).  What's your view on that?

to be honest, I would have been happy with Avram G at the start of the season, but he has hardly pulled up trees at West Ham as he?
