Fair enough.

I desperately want Houllier but I haave a horrible feeling it will be Kmac

If they wanted Kev there wouldn't be any reason not to announce it this afternoon, but that's obviously not going to happen now.

Do your "sources" say something is imminent then Dave ??

It stands to reason - the interviewing's been done, there seems to be only two names in the frame. There can't be that much left to discuss.

The whole thing is quite amateurish really and I can't remember any job being as drawn out as this at any other club- I just hope we get a decision soon as it's almost a month now- and if it is kmac I will be hugely disappointed

Could it be that you haven't been that interested in how other clubs have gone about appointing a new in such detail. When you wait for something to happen it invariably seems to take longer. The Club have conducted this in a completely professional manner, by not rushing into a bad decision and being discreet in the way the recruitment process has been undertaken.

Try to remember the last time a manager left a club in the same way as MON quit. Most managers are sacked and a replacement has already been lined up. Managers who leave for another job normally are known within the business to be looking and therefore the club will have started looking for a replacement. MON did a runner on a Monday having given no indication to RAL on Saturday so we can hardly blame the Club for not having a list of potential replacements if we didn't think he was going.

So when you say 'I can't remember any job being as drawn out as this at any other club', it may that you can't remember a situation like this at a top club. If you can remember then let me know because I can't - also  let me know if the swiftly appointed manager was the right man or not.

I  think houllier should have the freedom to choose his own coaching staff I'd offered the job- it never really works when a manager has his coach imposed on him and I hope that would not be the case in this instance .

I do agree with you jembob, but if you let your manager be non-commital, i.e. on a year's rolling contract, then you should be ready at any moment for him to walk out.

Remember the farcical situation at Liverpool when Houllier joined and Roy Evans was kept on as joint manager. Nobody knew who was in charge until Roy left "by mutual consent".

One manager please, in complete charge

I see Cyril Smith has died today RIP.  At least that is one less off the list to succeed MO'N.

Saunders - Barton, worked out reasonably well initially ;-)

In all fairness jim there have been rumours about mon going for
months so I imagine the board must have had an idea in their minds what they would do if it happened- I take your point though and would hazard a guess that Hughes would have been long appointed if mon had gone when he was still available.

It's not so much mon going as the fact that 5 leading members of the staff all went together.

I do wish the media would stop saying Macdonald is the favourite... the favourite for what? In Randy's statement it said he wanted a manager with experience, why has the majority of people in sports journalism and sports media not bothered to have read the statement which has pretty much effectively ruled out Macdonald.

I still can't believe Curbishley was 1 of 4 to get interviewed, the lack of ambition to get someone like Moyes, Jol, Hiddink, Hitzfeld etc... is a bit annoying, but either Houllier or Sven would be decent appointments - not great, not bad but it's important we give whoever our new manager is time and be patient.

I can see your logic Chico but somehow we need to get the whole club pulling in the same direction.  I fear that if there is a Houllier and X, Y, Z coaching team dealing with the first team and a K-Mac / Cowans team dealing with reserves and youth then there is a clear split (a bit like with MON).

I'd like to hope that one of the benefits of this process and the need for the interviews is to get the whole club sorted from the bottom up, so that the - hopeful - growth is sustainable with the reserves and youth feeding the first team.

I think the K-Mac could be a vital man in insuring that happens.

Quite, as long as it's not Houllier or particularly MacDonald.

Kev's worked with every manager for the past 15 years so I would hope he could work with Gezza.
