Little Mouse; impressive though that list is, there is not a single trophy in ten years. Since the England job, no decent team has touched him either, there has to be a reason for it.

Perhaps Sven's contacts include the odd sheikh who might be interested in an English Premier League Club currently above Manchester Sheikhdom in the League?

Chris , regarding beckham on loan , im thinking of the financial spin off for the club and publicity , yes he may play a few games but it would be worthwhile.
sven when talking in the fake sheikh incident said he could bring beckham here, so its a relevant point. i know time has moved on but milan have said they wont take him this season and west ham have expressed an interest , if sven came maybe he would.

Ultimately the main thing is that i want sven to get the job , i said that last year and unlike you i think he would be a huge upgrade on o neill. why do you say its not realistic , if west ham under grant can go for him on a short term loan what makes you think he wouldnt come to villa under sven?

There were some good posts about how long the honeymoon lasted with MON which were relevant.   A Curbishly like appointment would get a much tougher reception, and have to work miracles to keep the fans on side, something the interviewers would recognise.
I think we can forget a honeymoon. Shotgun weddings are normally followed by a visit to the A&E.

This is depressing - remember the heady days when replacing O Neill would have us picking from a crop of world class managers?

Nope

I would be happy with Sven, Jol, Moyes or McLeish.

Martin Laursen?

;)

curbs would still be a more ambitious appointment than a reserve team coach, laursen same as kmac , no experience at this level.

i remember many years ago when we all thought venables was to be unveiled only for doug to step from behind the curtain with john gregory- i pray that i do not have that feeling in my stomach again this time when randy reveals his man.

Playing devils advocate –

I wouldn’t be against Sven but people listing his achievements really doesn’t mean a great deal as the most noticeable ones were achieved when Jack the Ripper was a lad, football has moved on since then. Could he do it now on possibly a limited budget that remains to be seen. He’s certainly got the contacts to find a hidden gem that’s for sure.

If we get Curbishley then I will cry.

EDIT: And not with happiness.

That's true, although of course - playing devil's advocate back - in contrast we're also discussing managers who have no achievements whatsoever.

the biggest problem with Curbishley, is that he is a bit boring, and we are looking for someone to get excited about,
his appointment wont do anything for ticket sales, season or othrewise.

but that aside his record at Charlton was very good, and at west ham i believe he was under virtual impossible circumstances,

he plays passing football, and is known to favour attack minded teams rather than defensive teams as Sven, Houlier,Moyes, do.
so the football would be a lot different than that under MON

so in terms of the football he might bring ,its not by any means a dissaster, but in terms of marketability it is

he just wont get the time or patience from the fans to make a mistake,
everything he touches from the start will have to be sucsesfull, just to get the fans on his side,, he wont be allowed a Marlon Harewood moment.

i find it dificult to see it working not so much on the pitch, but in the stands

I think its going to be KM with a director of football type above him. Like Graham Taylor suggested.

I want a manager that I can see still here in 10 years with a nice list of trophies they've won.

Dreaming... I know!
