Reminds me of a tv series title - Curb(s) Your Enthusiasm!

Very good.

Said it before and I'll say it again, whatever way you look at it, MON f*cked us, f*cked us right up the arse, and he knew exactly what he was doing (for once).

probably kept his notice letter in an envelope marked 'Plan B'.

Excellent, very witty, made me laugh!

that is a very depressing list...
What is so galling is that a club with three consecutive  sixth placed finishes is having to make do with the "least worst" option.

I, and i am sure everyone else, could construct a convincing case against ANY of the list being suitable.Instead we are likely to console ourselves with the thought "Well it could have been Phil Brown".

I seem to remember that Houlier left Liverpool in a right old state. Divisions in the playing staff, discontent, rumours that he conducted his business via the local media, had favourites, was very stubborn etc.

A bit like a French O'Neill.

And I'm not sure whether the "success" he had at Liverpool was proportionate to the money he spent.

Then again, if it's him or Curbishley.....

Is it a well known fact that Curbishley's brother is the manager of The Who??

Maybe we could swap Heskey for Roger Daltrey..?

As long as Pete Townshend promises not to undertake any "research" on the U14 team

For me, Sven's the most suitable candidate from the ones being bandied about most recently. I'd have been really pleased with Hughes but we missed out by a couple of weeks (cheers Martin), and the same with Moyes but it's looking unlikely we'll go near him. Same with Jol. Koeman I kind of like, but no PL experience makes him risky and we're not in a position to take risks.

Curbs? No, for obvious reasons. Limited horizons. When he did have money to spend at West Ham, he made some very poor signings. Kevin Mac? Would far rather him than Curbishley but it would still be underwhelming and contradicts the statement from the board (unless they try to be cute and claim KM has PL experience - three games).

Houllier? Better, but I'd still be slightly concerned. Signed a lot of very average players for Liverpool - they had some fantastic players who were able to level things out a little.

So, Sven. Reputation's been tarnished a little since he left Man City but he did a good job there in his single season and was harshly treated. Since then he's become a bit of a jobbing coach, popping up with Mexico, Ivory Coast and that odd stint with Notts County. That's done him no favours but those are different types of jobs and roles than he'd have here. He's still a very good coach. Knows the PL. Knows English players. Also has a very good worldwide knowledge of players - think of those he signed at City, pretty quickly and in a short space of time: the likes of Elano, Corluka. He'd definitely be a draw for new signings.

When I look at the list of those most likely, it doesn't fill me with joy I have to say!!!

I have to admit to Sven now being my choice, whereas when MON left I refused to entertain the idea of Sven even being considered....just goes to show what a difference a few weeks can make....

Jol, Moyes, Hughes would have been the preferred route but when we start interviewing the likes of Curbishley, well........need I say more!??

Trouble with Sven is the entourage that comes with him. He has a good record but only when spending money which he will likely not get here and his salary requirement might well rule him out anyway.

He has gone on record saying that he would Manage Villa without asking the earth salary wise.

The biggest concern, and the most significant one is his managerial ability.

I've never rated Erickson, he's a very overpaid Manager who would bring nothing to Villa in my opinion.

Was texting my Cleveland Brown supporting mate and he is assured me it is typical nfl tactics, interview a load of candidates, some will hve no significance.

Hope he is right and Randy is just being meticulous....however, he is also of the opinion that Randy has deliberately waited for the window to shut before interviewing so the money to spend wouldnt be a big issue.

My boss has heard from someone working in finance at VP, he thinks its between Curbs and Sven from what he knows. However, Jol and Koeman are possibilities. 2nd stage interviews today, announcement likely to be tomorrow.
