I can't help but think that if Kev Mac wanted to be a manager he'd have got a job by now.

Right.  It's almost as though if he does get it now it will be because they can't find anyone else.

Maybe K Mac never thought he'd have the chance to manage a club of our size? A club he's already fully familiar with too.
Maybe the idea of managing a lower league club doesnt inspire him, but managing one of the top Premier league clubs does? Its a chance he'll never have again and he'd have to think about it, surely?

And if he as appointed I dont think it would be down to not being able to find anybody else at all. Somebody more suitable maybe. There will be no shortage of applicants. Some of whom will have pursuasive arguments.
And after all, if he tries it and fails, he can, in all likelihood, go back to his previous role.
I wouldn't rule this out as a possibility.

Anyway, short of getting a Hiddink or that calibre of manager, I think its worth a try.

Koeman interested in the job...about as good an option as there is.

He's a name but his managerial record is not that impressive. He only lasted 4 months into the season at AZ.

I honestly think Randy's going to see what Kev Mac does in the next two games and then make a decision on Monday.  Win them both and he's our new manager, should he want the job, which you couldn't really argue with!

He made a right fucking pigs ear of the Valencia job, he nearly caused a civil war inside six months.

Look at us Brit's going "Ooh, he was a great Dutch player, he'll do" when in all likelihood he's about as much use as Bryan Robson.

The 47-year-old has an impressive CV as a manager after winning three Eredivisie titles while also claiming the Copa del Rey during his time in Spain.

Despite what I said about KM above, that's actually pretty decent!

Doesn't winning the Copa Del Rey carry about as much importance as  the Watneys Cup, though?

Ronald Koeman      85      £2.78      £233.52 - on betfair

Shame they didn't take the other £7.22 before he opened his trap. Now I just need to see Pellegrini confirmed as a candidate and I'm quids in.

Having had a look at Koemen's record there, maybe he wouldnt be the best shout.

I am getting a bit desperate about the situation.

I know K- Mac did a great job on Saturday and obviously has a lot of qualities, but I just cant help feeling that if his appointment went wrong, it could set us back a couple of years. Even if he does win the next 2 games playing wonderful football I still wont be convinced.

You dont judge managers on how they do when everything is plain sailing and rosy in the garden. We have no idea how he would react to 3 defeats in  a row or a fall out with one of the players or any kind of adversity. Does he have it in him to steady the ship if things go a little awry?

Im not for a minute having a go at him or suggesting he wouldnt be able to cope with the above, all I am saying is that with no managerial experience we cannot be sure...nor can Randy.

In the era of the over-paid, egotistical, Premier League players, how many caretaker managers have taken over and been successful?

If he does get the job full time, I really hope it works out and we become an example to the rest of the league to promote from within, rather than going trawling around Europe appointing the latest manager to have had a good 6 months. He is a guy that Im sure will have all the fans behind him and, I would hope would be afforded a little patience. However, ultimately, his appointment would worry me.

Good call on Bryan Robson. Koeman hardly set Benfica alight either.

Just to be clear, I'm not enamoured with Koeman as a candidate, I just backed him on the basis of a report linking him with the job last week. It's Pellegrini or K Mac for me.

It's Pellegrini with K Mac for me, if Jol is not interested.

If KM can get the team performing like they did on Saturday in the next 4 games I'd extend his caretaker role till Jan on the proviso that if it all goes wrong he can move back into his coaching role.  That would take the pressure of him knowing that his future was still secure to some extent and we would keep what is obviously a very good coach.

I think to some extent that KM must have thought that he never had the ability to manage a top club and only in an instance where he is kind of forced into the role can he see that maybe he could make it as a manger after all.
