My  main, possibly only, reservation about MON going is whether Randy and his crew have the necessary football knowledge to pick an appropriate successor.  Randy doesn't appear to have a fantastic track record in his appointments for the Browns in a sport he knows much better than proper Football.  Bob Bradley would be a mistake in my view as he lacks the experience of running a top club, and any experience in European let alone English football.  I though Martin Jol did a decent job and was treated appalingly by Spurs after two 5th places and playing some decent football on and off - but he had his critics among Spurs fans. He seems to always speak highly of Villa though, and he knows the region,  so you never know.  Apart from that Rijkaard, Bilic or Hitzfield could be good shouts.  I'd also have been okay with Hughes, who I think gets an unfair press,  or Hodgson, but it's a bit late now.

Yet again we shoot ourselves in the foot.

Obviously about transfer funds, and despite what your opinions are about MON, i think you can say that his main motivation was to improve his and his clubs reputation. We would have only have gained as a club by MON trying to do this.

But now the king is dead, long live the king.Hiddink or noone. If Sven comes,. i won't be going down again.

This is depressing.

There is no manager worthy of replacing MON.

Low? Why would he come to Villa???

Jol? 2nd to FC Twente.

There isn't anyone.

The next appointment will show our future ambition.

Mid to lower table = every manager on the list who would realistically come to Villa.

What about a Bid for Trapattoni? He's done an unbelievable job with some absolute dross in the ROI squad. I think he'd be affordable and would welcome the opportunity of not having to coach the likes of Glenn Whelan. Would be a very good technical coach and I think would steady the ship. Has won things just about everywhere he's gone....

Name one then CCBB who will inspire you, and fill you full of confidence.

Moyes, and Hiddink are the only 2 i would think we have a chance for now, if we don't get one of them, then prepare yourself for mid table mediocrity.

OK as you don't want to answer that one, which "genuinely top class" managers are likely to walk out on their current clubs to join us?

It's not a case of not wanting to answer that one, that's how it is.  Our next manager doesn't have to be currently unemployed.

As to who would quit their current job to take over, I have no idea.  Depends on what sort of case we can make to them.

Put it this way, I don't think Randy's first thought should be "Okay, let's assume that x, y, and z won't be interested and not bother even approaching them."  What he should do is figure out which managers he would be most happy with and go from there.

Obviously there are managers who aren't gettable: Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho, etc.  But other than that very top tier, I don't think we should necessarily be ruling anyone out before we've approached them.

As others have said, this is an absolutely crucial appointment, so it's not a time to be thinking small.

I'm not sure who we can lure to the club. Magath, van Basten etc are big names but would they come to a club that seems to be in turmoil.

There's something deeply wrong I think. Would the new man have funds? Would he encounter some problem with Randy that may have caused MON's walkout?

Has he graduated from booze to crystal meth?

I think that the reason we have a vacancy today is largely down to that fact that we have been thinking small.

No, he just thinks it's still 1990.
