He's not 'protesting' at all. He was directly asked what he thought about his reputation for moving late in the transfer market and replied that he's not bothered if thats what people think as he did good business in the end. He used the example of Dunne, Collins and Warnock to prove it and he's right.

Me thinks he protests too much but how wanting the players to have actually met, trained together and got some understanding before the season starts can be classed as unfair criticism is beyond me

I think i'll go with the rest of the premiership on this one and the managers in it who've actually achieved something

And nowhere did I say leaving it until the last minute is the best option. You said he's protesting too much and you're making things up again. As for going "with the rest of the premiership on this one and the managers in it who've actually achieved something" well I'm not sure what you're babbling on about but most business in any transfer window is done in the last couple of weeks.

I reckon this has come about because MON has something big planned.Like a big team bbq, or a fancy dress party.

2 things, firstly at Leicester, then Celtic and now at Villa O'Neill has always left his transfer dealings until late on and nearly always ends up paying over the odds and put the players on too high a wage. Why do people still expect him to change. The man hates the transfer window, he can't cope with it, he prefers to buy players in the season as he needs them.

So he basically waits for the season to start, sees deficiencies and then signs players to fill those an a panicky whim. Yes? If so, I imagine he does most of his business in January, as that's when deficiencies are best known.
