I watched last nights game because Messi was playing, I watch as many Barcalona games as I can if Messi is playing.  He is without doubt the best football player I have ever seen and not just because of his ability.  He plays the game properly, doesn't, as far as I know, cheat or roll around like he's been shot.  He is never angrily in the face of refs at every marginal decision.  There's a lot to like about Messi and I'm sure when he leaves John O'Shea on his arse for the umpteenth time in the final I will like him that bit more.

I'm actually quite glad Man Utd will be in the final, the prospect of Carrick and possibly Fletcher up against Xavi and Iniesta could be very entertaining indeed.

I said this to my mate last night. The only player who I didn't see moan at a ref or roll around like a tart was the smallest player on the park, who came in for the worst treatment. He plays the game properly and bloody brilliantly. I believe he could go on to be the greatest ever.

If only Messi could perform like that consistently then he could possibly challenge Bale for the title of best player in the world. It's no good scoring 50 plus goals and creating hundreds of others each season unless you can do it against the likes of WBA, Stoke etc.

Excelllent Chris, made me smile. Must be a sobering thought to be a Spurs fan and see the team who thrashed you made to look so ordinary

Busquets, Messi, Pedro, Xavi and Alves = my heroes

Me and Messi = brothers from another mother, test boosters ftw.

Agree entirely.  That odious little pissflap Ronaldo isn't anywhere near as good.

Real Madrid were never going to score last night, the closest they were to scoring a goal was a Ronaldo freekick from 30 yards out, ironicially he had about 4 freekicks all go into the wall or way into the stands. Ronaldo is such a beta. Crys when no-one passes him the ball, even the special one ignored his beta whinyness.

Messi - cool as ice. Gets kicked all over the place but just gets on with it scoring such great goal words cannot describe. He is the GOAT, that slimey prick Ronaldo isn't even close to him in terms of talent and ability.

If we ever play Barcelona I will ask the General if we can move the advertising hoardings, so they go horizontally across the pitch. Little git would still score three.

Mourinhio went down in my estimation last night. The biggest team in the world playing 7 defensive players at home was a disgrace.

Ronaldo to be fair had no support at all, but Messi is a joy to watch.Plays the game in the right spirit, great attitude, obvious fantastic ability.

Football won last night, and thank God for that.

Wise words Bren - different times different players and I still might have to go for Cruyff simply because I saw him "live" but Messi is simply wonderful to watch and in a class of his own in the present generation.  Add in that possibly the next two best players are Xavi and Iniesta then it's no wonder Barcelona are the team they are.

There was as much cheating in that one game last night as I have season in the entire season at the Villa. That was an horrible disgrace of game from both sides, with one redeeming feature in Messi's goal.

Quite. Between that and Mourinho's (admittedly previously hugely successful) attempt to grind out a 0-0 home draw it was appalling, considering the talent available. I know two Spanish Real supporters and they have been utterly underwhelmed by Mourinho from day one. They have (like many football supporters) a view on how their club should play, and Mourinho's way isn't it. For them at least.

Still, should hiltscoolerking's dream come true and Jose decided to rock up at VP, I probably wouldn't whinge....at least not at first.  :)

I think Busquets is one of the biggest cheating ****** ever to play the game. I'd pay good money for one 50/50 challenge with that petal.

It was definitely to Barca's shame that they allowed themselves to be dragged down to Mourinho's level. People have overreacted massively, but there are two things to clear up: Barca don't do that all the time, but Mourinho does. Guardiola will feel a certain sense of disappointment in his players' actions (he's spoken against the cult of exaggeration - and it was exaggeration, not diving, and it looks more embarrassing often), but he will also slightly not care because he's just beaten a man who does nothing but despoil, nullify, harm and manipulate - who's then had the nerve to claim that Barca's success is tainted by some grand conspiracy!

These games have not shown the best of anyone except for Xavi and especially Messi, the only two who consistently played well and the only two who refused to be dragged down to this level (Iniesta might have joined them but he didn't play through injury). Ramos has been a particular disgrace in every Clasico this season - not only sent off for an awful lunge on Messi in the 5-0 (and should have gone yesterday for a forearm smash on the same player), but also guilty of as many histrionics as Busquets. Say what you like about Barca, at least they never just kicked the opposition like half a billion euros' worth of talent decided to yesterday. Mourinho has to leave Spain to rescue this fixture from the gutter.

Crap game. I've seen more football played in an Old Firm game.
