For all the apparent diving and exaggerating by 'Barcelona' I can only really remember Busquets, Pedro (who doesn't usually) and Alves doing loads of the rolling around stuff. Messi, Xavi, Pique, Puyol, Keita, Mascherano even had varying degrees of dignity, but still had some undeniably. As for Real? Well, Mourinho's crying conspiracy again, asking 'why' all his teams end up with 10 men against Barca. Why? Well, because you send them out to literally kick them, that's why. It's your own negative, game-spoiling fault and it's just funny that your tactics come back to bite you quite like that.

That Afully is way better than Pedro. If they don't want him, can we make a bid please?

Pique is the world's worst waver of imaginary cards. Not last night particularly, but I've noticed it a lot in the past.

Real are worse than Barcelona, but neither team covered themselves in glory last night.

The worst incident was the Barca player (can't remember which) holding his face as if smacked with a cricket bat whilst going to ground, contact having been made nowhere near his face.

Probably Pedro. He and Alves are Barcelona's biggest cheats, I reckon.

Still though, I find it quite amusing that a team happy to employ Cristiano Ronaldo accuses the opposition of cheating.

Lords have offered Pedro a contract as the light roller this summer.

That was Pedro. Unusual for him, but still embarrassing last night.

Pique does wave the imaginary cards but, you know, I really think there are worse crimes. Football is an emotional game and if you've just been fouled in a manner you think is worthy of a card you can sometimes go overboard. It's like Ronaldo and Rooney in 2006. I know a lot of people cared about that, but I just didn't think it was that bad.

The bottom line is that it's worse to deliberately inflict physical harm on your opponents, or to break up the game with fouls from a purposely over-physical approach, than it is to play act a bit, from the point of view of danger caused and who is trying to play the game. It wasn't pretty, but I think people have gone a bit OTT.

Astonishingly, many of us might feel, Pustule has stuck his oar in.

Semi protagonists sicken Pulis

Thu, 28 Apr 12:51:54 2011

Stoke boss Tony Pulis has labelled Barcelona and Real Madrid a disgrace for the theatrics that marred Wednesday night's Champions League semi-final clash.

The Catalonians won the first leg 2-0 in the Bernabeu after a tempestuous game that produced red cards for Madrid defender Pepe, coach Jose Mourinho and Barcelona substitute goalkeeper Jose Pinto.

Referee Wolfgang Stark was surrounded by players on numerous occasions after tackles from both sides and Pulis, whose team have received plenty of criticism for their physical style of play, called for action to try to stamp out play acting. He said: "The game was a great disappointment. Both teams spent too long trying to get players booked and sent off. They put enormous pressure on the referee and I thought the attitude of the game from both sides was appalling.

"We get criticised in this country for being physically too competitive. You have a look at that game, and they're the two greatest teams in Spain with great players, players you could only dream of having in your team, and the attitude was a disgrace.

"Nobody will talk about it, they'll talk about challenges sometimes and being over competitive but you won't hear them talking about players rolling around. That German referee was put under so much pressure it was frightening. You're getting fellow professionals trying to con referees to get other fellow professionals sent off.

"Someone has to stand up and say something about it because it's happening in this country as well and it's wrong. It's a competitive game but it's about football. We'll be competitive, but we'll be honest, and there's a difference. Wednesday night was tantamount to trying to cheat referees into making bad decisions and that should not happen."

Pulis should be wary using that phrase at the end, given the number of things his team's method of play is 'tant amount to'.

I'm sure Martin O'Neill was having a chuckle last night, as compared to his Celtic sides defeat in the UEFA Cup Final against Mourinho's Porto, last night was a UEFA endorsed Fair Play demonstration game. Mourinho has history, no only the negative, dirty, cheating tactics but when it all goes wrong, he cries like a baby.

I wonder how last night will affect his job prospects at Old Trafford. My guess is serious questions are being asked. Today I think he's more likely to end up at Man City than Man Utd.

There was as much cheating in that one game last night as I have season in the entire season at the Villa. That was an horrible disgrace of game from both sides, with one redeeming feature in Messi's goal.

If only Messi could perform like that consistently then he could possibly challenge Bale for the title of best player in the world. It's no good scoring 50 plus goals and creating hundreds of others each season unless you can do it against the likes of WBA, Stoke etc.
