Going to go out on a limb here as I have with my mates for years, Xavi is the best player in this team by a margin, Messi is spectacular and gets all the attention but Xavi is their heartbeat, brilliant player at best, great player at worst, guarantees an 8 out of 10 every time he puts on the shirt and regularly gives 9s and 10s as well.

When I went to Barcelona last year my son wanted a Barcelona kit from the Nou Camp for his 7th birthday. I asked him if he wanted a name and number on the back expecting him to say Messi. He wanted Xavi and 6, because in his words he is the best player in the world. I can't argue with that!

Beeb going into overdrive -

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie on being shown a second yellow card for shooting after the referee had blown his whistle: "It had a big influence on the outcome - at 1-1 it was all to play for - and it was a total joke because how can I hear his whistle with 95,000 people jumping up? There was only one second from his whistle to my shot and it is a joke. I explained it to him but he was been bad all evening."

I don't think the sending off had any effect whatsoever on the result.

If he didn't hear the whistle I'd be suprised (and he should get his ears checked), you can clearly hear it on every replay.

What's really amusing is if you see someone like stoke get 30% possession and scrape a win against arsenal all the arsenal fans act like they should have the 3 points because of the anti-football, whereas tonight they were clearly going to go through until that decision, all a bit arsene wenger tbh.

Check the stats on the BBC website. Got to be the ref's fault.

Ok, a major decision which was harsh but what else was wrong. Genuine question as I missed the first 40 mins and just turned it on as the replays of the handbags at 10 paces was going on about a minute before RVP was booked the first time.

Not having a shot on target all game sort of undermines any of the Arsenal arguments.

Watching the Shakter- Roma highlights and I see Howard Webb has taken on board the English ruling that an elbow to the face is nothing these days
