It's just that since the draw was made you've not given us any chance whatsoever. I made the point at the time that the cup has shown over many years that the favourites don't always win. You're talking about us like we're Crawley Town going to Old Trafford as opposed to one of the biggest teams in English football history going to play Man City. Yes, we've had a difficult season, but that doesn't mean we don't have very good players that are more than capable of competing with Man City, and in fact beat them the last time the two sides played each other.

I'm not blindly optimistic at all. In fact, given the fact that we are both PL clubs, I'd say us having a chance of winning is a far more realistic assessment than you're "there's no chance at all we're going to win" stance.

I don't remember ever saying there's no chance at all, I just know that Aston villa throughout my lifetime just don't go winning at Premier League clubs in the FA Cup.  I remember Everton in 2000 en route to the Final and that's about it.  Add that to the fact that they are a lot better than us at the moment and we have won twice in Manchester in the last 15 years or so and I can't see it, I just can't see it.  Is that allowed?   I will be there fully behind the team on the day but I reserve the right for pessimism on this one.

Really? How about minutes after the draw was made.

We might as well have lost yesterday and given our players a rest in 3 weeks.  No chance of us winning there and even if we did Arsenal, Man United, Chelsea and possibly Spurs would be waiting for us in th QF.  Add to that small heath very possibly going to Wembley twice after therir piss easy draw and it's bad news all round. Gutted, absolutely gutted.

Ok, fair enough but that was immediately after the draw and I was fuming.  I haven't said we have absolutely no chance with a clear head.  Who knows, we may do it but I won't hold my breath.

Can't get excited about watching the FA cup when Villa are out of it and although we are not out yet I can't help thinking that we are about to be.  Jammy Blue noses, Sheff Weds at home!

I see you're still waving the white flag with same amount of zeal.

Why does being reallistic have to be "waving the white flag"?  We are in a relegation battle, Man City are in the top 4.  Our record signing is ineligible for the game and we are defending like a team destined for the drop.   Yes, I think we will lose at Man City (and it will be them), sorry!  Being a fan doesn't have to mean blind optimism at all times.

EDIT:  And by blind optimism I just mean what I think the score will be, I am still spending hundreds of pounds on flying over for the game even though I think we will get knocked out.

You're entitled to your opinion Holteenderinthesky but it's one I just can't get my head around.  Aston Villa can win against any team on the planet.  We're possibly going to be playing Man City in the next round and we'll be going there to win the tie.   We're not some non-league outfit on a jolly - and City's new found wealth doesn't change that.  We're a greater club - the greatest club - and defeatism and writing games off is not what our club is about.  Villa writing a game off against Man City?  Absolutely crazy.

As Ron Saunders said:  "Do you wanna bet against us?"  That is the attitude of Aston Villa F.C..  We want to win that Cup!

Just don't give up. We have very good players, and aside from safety in the PL which I'm confident we'll achieve, we only really have this to play for. Man City are still up on 3 fronts, so they'll be rotating their squad. While we're not going there as favourites, we still have potential match winnners all over the pitch. I think getting a eell earned draw up there and beating them at VP is a very realisitic scenario.

Fair play to Koogan; he said from the start it would go to penalties.

The Villa team and fans should NEVER fear any other team in any competition. Our founders formed Aston Villa  to compete in the game at of Association Football at the highest possible level and we have a duty to stay as close to that as possible without fear.
