Although the kids are doing really well, if we had someone like Heskey or an up for it Carew on the end of some of the crosses we could have had more. Conversely without the kids we might not have played as well.

But he's a centre-back and he only plays right-back for Germany because Germany have two good centre-backs already. It seems like Mancini is having a bit of a MON Cuellar situation on his hands. Kolo Toure is shit and so are the rest of Shitty's team, the team that cost £350 million and are still shit despite how much they spend. Jokers.
They're five points ahead of us, so what are we?
Yeah, but they're expected to win the title with the money they've spent... we on the otherhand are playing Hogg and Bannan in midfield but yet both young lads put Yaya Toure's weekly wages to shame.

Meantime, my tenner on West Ham to get relegated at 9/2 at the start of the season is looking positively inspired!

Well we know better than to rely on Heskey and Carew for a regular supply of goals.  I think we're about where we deserve to be in the table, based on some excellent attacking play and some pretty shoddy defending at times.

My point is that Man City aren't shit and all their players aren't shit either.  Maybe they're not as good as they should be, given the money they've spent, but what they have spent has been sufficient to get them 5 points ahead of us after 13 games.  If Mancini goes, the new manager will have a decent base from which to work, lots of money to spend in January, obviously, and will probably look to get them to be more attack-minded.

I don't know about that.  I think this season for them is about qualifying for the Champions League.

Wasn't that their last season target? Remember Hughes was sacked as he wasn't reaching targets. They were 6th at the time. Another 150 milion or however much spent means they should be aiming higher then just 4th this time.

I don't think anyone has set the title as their target, and I don't think anyone expects them to win it.  So qualifying for the Champions League has to be their goal.  Whether they do that by finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th doesn't much matter in the long run.

I dunno about that. When you look at the players they have you would say it's a team that should challneging for the title, but the problem for Man City is that they can't play as a team. I just don't understand the logic of getting another manager in soon the starting the whole cycle again of buying/wasting more money on new overrated and overpaid players. Realistically who can they get better than what they already have? They'll only get the 'best' players once they start winning things.

I think that'll happen when they get Champions League football.  The offer of that plus mega-money is what will attract better players than they currently have.

They're currently on course for it, with a long way to go admittedly.  4th place, with a 3 point lead, and they haven't even been playing very well.

I agree with that. VDV would have been a Citeh or Villa player if either had been in the CL and got past the qualification stage like Spurs.

Agreed, but which better players are they going to get?

The likes of Tevez, Silva, Kompany, and de Jong are some of the best players in the world in their positions. There's only so much upgrading you can do and make it work.

I have no doubt that they will qualify for the Champions League this season and probably win the league within three years, but I can't see a huge amount of new players coming in, or which players they would buy.

Liverpool have been absolute rubbish.  I thought they'd "turned the corner"?

Nah, they do this act of beating United or Chelsea every season trying fool everyone they're legit contenders for the league title then put in dire performances against relegation fodders Wigan and Stoke. The Liverpool we are watching tonight are the real Liverpool - not the Liverpool that beat Chavski.
