No, but did anyone see or hear him blow his whistle either to stop play either?

Probably and it would have solved a lot of problems if he had done. But he didn't, so it was a bit daft of Gomes to decide that he should have done and act accordingly.

Let's face it, if Gomes had just launched the ball like any sensible player would have done there wouldn't even be this discussion.
