If Spurs weren't from London no-one would actually give a shit about them and they'd be considered about as big as Blackburn.

I think your description above applies more to West Ham than Spurs.

I'm no Spurs fan at all ( I fucking hate em, in fact) but their fanbase is at least as big as Villa's
Yes, but would there be a massive media wankfest about the mighty totnumb like there has been in recent years if they were not from London? I highly doubt it. Just imagine the hype and media attention Villa would get if we were from London?

Spurs will always be smaller than us regardless whether or not they come from London.

Hurts me to admit it, but their fan base is at least as big as ours.

One difference is that if they lose their manager, they're debating whether they should go for Mourinho or Hiddink (regardless of whether they have a chance of getting them, that's not the point).

When we lose ours, lots of us are boohooing about how the best we can get is a Curbishley level appointment / Bob Bradley might be worth a shot / Jol would never come here / maybe Allardyce would like it.

That's partly down to us miserable bastards downplaying ourselves to the point of depression. Appointing MON in 2006 would have been complete fantasy stuff yet we got him. And the club was in way worse condition. I have no idea what the board have in mind for this appointment but I would hope they would be a little more spirited than some of us are at times. The big thing about RL's Villa is that it's like the KGB in there and little ever gets out. Good in many ways, but it does fuel the rumour mill something fierce.

Winning 3-2 against a League 2 team is nothing for them to feel particulary proud about... it was the fact that 4000 (yes, four thousand) turned up to the sty! We might be in minor crisis at the moment, but boy, the noses will always give us something for us to laugh at them.

And maybe the only thing in a week, football wise to cheer me just slightly is that a whole 6431 people turned up to see it.
