The last signing you got excited about?

The original post asks about "the last signing" you were excited about. For me it was when MON signed Ashley Young and swapped Baros for Carew and they both appeared together as Little and Large in their new Villa shirts.

I haven't been disappointed by Ashley, I hope he stays and gets better and better. Actually, I haven't been disappointed by JC either, when he hits his form he is a menace and I still believe he has got a few more goals left in him at B6, especially if he gets challenged by  a striker that can score a few goals.

Carew - I remembered seeing him play for Lyons in the Champions League. Thought he would be that elusive 20 league goals per season striker we've been missing since Peter Withe (mind you I thought that about JPA, Collymore, Gabby and Luke Moore too!)

I was very excited when we signed Stan Collymore from Liverpool. I went to the pre-season 'friendly' at the Hawthorns which looked as though it was gonna be an embarassment for us until he got the ball near the half way line and just homed in on the Albion goal and slid the ball into the net. After that, I honestly thought we'd cracked it up front. Real shame he never fulfilled his obvious potential at Villa.

John Carew, couldnt believe we pulled off that "top trumps" trasnsfer.  Came with a massive reputatiion in Europe.

Nigel Reo-Coker another, added bite to our weak midfield. Still a massive favourite

Carew, Young, Dublin, Merson, Angel, Hadji, Collymore, Townsend, Staunton, Houghton, Ginola, hell even Draper are signings i was well chuffed with when we made them, but the one and only signing in over 20 years that was really exciting, i.e. a player that was as good as virtually anyone in his position in the league, a decent age, and no baggage was Saunders.

I remember being on holiday in Torquay when we signed Deano.
We were in the lounge of a hote having breakfastl, and he came running in with the paper announcing we'd signed Saunders. i jumped up and spilt my breakfast down my clothes!

DEAN SAUNDERS

The away end at Elland Road for his debut was something else, Wimbledon and Boro away and the two Liverpool league games will live long in the memory.

Excited...Paul Merson. Hopeful, Stewart Downing...if Milner goes, he'd better show more promise that he did last year.
I may start a countdown thread of the number of times he goes oast a defender and crosses as opposed to passes back or inside

I think Angel for me, like others have said he was a bit of an unknown. Also Ashley Young, because he looked an exciting talent at Watford.

The last signing we made that made me feel excited would be Delph.

The signing that excited me the most was Angel, closely followed by Collymore.

Ashley Young.

That signing felt like a statement of intent. And it was - Buy British!
