Angel because he was something of an unknown, and a bit adventurous for Villa to pluck someone out of South America. Especially from such a famous club like River Plate. Collymore or even Deano before that I suppose. We don't tend to do flashy deals do we?

Merson.  I thought he'd be the catalyst to start attracting other world class players.

Angel for me.

Retrospectively I feel it was pretty mis-placed, but that's an argument for another time.

Instead our manager seemed to go mental and buy nothing but creative but flighty players like Carbone and Ginola.

The last one has to be Heskey! Lol simply because we were flying 8 points in front of Arsenel,
Carew was injured and I was fooled into thinking Heskey would turn Gabby into a goal machine!

How wrong we all were moaning about playing 451 back then, when it was so effective!

Sasa Curcic.  When I moved up to the NW, the firm I worked for got free tickets to watch Bolton, so I saw a fair bit of him the season before he signed for us.  He was brilliant for them.

Me too. A Manc friend phoned me up and asked me "Who would you most like to sign?". I said Curcic, and he said we had. At that point I hadn't a clue we were in for him. I was so chuffed.

He looked a class act when he was at Bolton, no doubt. Shame he had a severe case of unresolved bats in his belfry.

Remember being excited at the signing of Peter Schmeical

I recall being bilious at the signing of that fat over the hill red nosed git. In fact it was the most angry a signing as ever made me. The abuse I had hurled at him for years and now I would be forced to applaud his antics. I had to sit on my hands for a couple of years because i still hated the bloke and i'm not sure those around me would have appreciated me giving the sod stick when he was playing for us. I'm sure he was wearing a girdle too!

Last time I got excited by a signing......... Hmmmmm......... Possibly Carbone before that Dean Saunders.

Ashley Young for me. Just had a feeling we were getting a really good player.

It's the only signing that has excited me during MON's tenure.

No wonder we're starting to lose our best players!

Not me. I didn't want us to buy anyone, because we would have had to keep playing 4-5-1.

Still quite excited about Delph, if he recovers fully he'll be some player.

Was excited about Young, Carew, Milner. Was really excited about Petrov after his debut at West Ham, but he's never looked as good since.
