I remember Villa getting beaten by a Deportivo team containing an unknown (to me) Rivaldo and being absolutely disgusted.

I know Bebeto played but I didn't know Rivaldo did ?

That's right, Rivaldo wasn't there when we played them but they had a few other Brazillians such as that bloke who played til he was about 40, Mauro Silva was it?

Vitoria Guimaraes.

Remember seeing Peter Withe score a hattrick against them in a 5-0 win (1983?)

Never heard of them before or since

Hafnarfjordur are in the Champion's League qualifiers I think, won their league.

As did MSK Zilina.

Newport County don't enter the Welsh Cup anymore, but have just been promoted to the Conference (Blue Square Premier).

As I vaguely recall they were another paris team. Were big with pots of cash for a year or two. I think they had another name as well before - I guess - Matra Racing sponsored them. Weren't they Red Star or somthing? I'll have a look now.

You get the drift.

I hadn't heard any mention of Lech Poznan for ages but I've just Googled them and it seems that they have regularly qualified for the UEFA Cup/ Europa League in recent years.

Fortuna Sittard

As I was writing this, I was thinking have I made this up ?

Freddie used to play for them if I recall. So did a few other big stars who played for PSV when they were young.

A few people have mentioned Aberdeen. They were in the Europa last year (Knocked out by some jokers early on) and the year before they beat FC Copenhagen 4-0 to get in the knockout stages where they drew with Bayern Munich before being absolutely thrashed in the second leg.
