100 years of top flight football for Villa

OK, any other saddos like me realised that the coming season will be our 100th in the top flight.

Everton the only other club to have done this?

Anyone know if the club have plans to commemorate this? surely we can't let this pass by without something being done to recognise this milestone? Proud History and all that.

Chelsea can't buy the kind of heritage that we take for granted at Villa. Imagine the fuss they'd be making if it was them celebrating their centenary?

I didn't realise it but now that you've mentioned it I think you are correct. It should be marked somehow.

I was thinking that.  I always thought Arsenal had spent more seasons in the top flight, followed by Everton and then perhaps us.  Or I could be mixing this up with number of continuous top flight seasons where Arsenal come out on top.

Does anyone have a list?

Not yet, they haven't. About five or six years short.

They weren't promoted to the First Division until 1904, 106 years ago. There's a relegation (1913-1919) and the break for WW II to knock off, so they're still on about 94 years.

Everton are number one having been relegated once which is some feat since 1888

we are number 2 I believe

And that's the number 1 played match in English football.

This is a big milestone that should definately be celebrated. As Everton are the only others that would be the perfect fixture for it to be rcognised.

Well spotted Chico !
This definitely needs to be commemorated...unlike Villa not to be already promoting this given the new regime are so on the ball PR wise.
