I quite like Rugby League - less scrums than rugby union meaning less fat blokes and more athletes.

I still think it suffers from the rule that when you score the opposition have to kick-off meaning you regain possession and can score again, leading to many one-sided games. Would prefer it if, like the NFL, the scoring team had the kick-off.

I "support" the Catalan Dragons in that they always used to be shit so I started looking out for their results out of sympathy. They seemed to have improved but have now gone back to being shit again. Still, in the Cup Semi-Finals so you never know.

I'm not a rugby fan, but a mate is a big League fan (well, he supports Leigh) and has sold me the code's virtues.  I do now occasionally watch it and have to say much prefer it to the forward attrition/kick-fest that Union too often becomes.

Not coincidentally, the same mate played Union throughout his twenties and most of his thirties.  He said that he tried amateur League for a couple of seasons, but Sunday afternoons on some grim Lancashire playing field being continually hit hard by a psychopathic brickee or miner (those were the days) were not ideal preparation for a Monday morning in a primary school classroom!

I got myself a ticket for Origin III which is next week. I can't wait!

I went to my first NRL game last Friday (St George Dragons v West Tigers) was a quality night.

League is a better game than Union. Scrums are awful. And Rugby League has too many bizarre rules.

Having said that Union is more exciting internationally as more countries play it.

Jaryd Hayne is a horribly over rated player.  Dips in and out of games when it suits, does nothing during Origin.  Typical NSW press darling.
