I'd still love a riches to rags to sort of riches again tale of the 1980s.

I've thought about that but there are a few problems with it. The main  one it's two great years at the start that have been done to death, a good one at the end that often gets overlooked and seven boring ones in the middle where nobody cared much about Villa, or football. There's just not the affection there as there is for the seventies, and the backdrop was a lot darker

True and difficult to argue with. However,  I think those middle years have a certain morbid fascination and I would quite like a permanent record of such "highlights" as Doug having the temerity to sack Tony Barton during a period of diligent rebuilding, of the Steve Hodge Norwich game, the disaster that was Billy McNeill and the rebirth under SGT.

If they sell at that price. There is a big difference between asking a high price and getting it. Especially on books. I should know, i've been selling the things for over 20 years. There's been a copy floating on ebay for £60 for ages without being bought, as an example.

john e just paid £59.

Why not re-publish it as an ebook and see how it goes?

No, No, No!

that would be like going to a hotel, opening the top drawer of your bedside cabinet and  seeing a note saying for spiritual guidance got to www.bible.com

like
Yes!

Luddites.  How are you reading this and how will you be getting your H&V fixes now the fanzine has gone digital?

If anyone can be arsed to find out who if anyone holds the rights just make them an offer and away you go.  The chances of actually making it happen via e are greater than persuading someone to actually do a print run.

If you have the publishing rights, and a way of digitising the book I believe amazon make it quite easy to create and publish e-books.

I saw a documentary a couple of months ago, where some bloke was claiming to have made a lot of cash from self-publishing.

Another one who would be interested, especially as I was too young to really appreciate even the arse end of the seventies.

79-80 being the first season I can really remember.  (0-0 home game v the stripeys?)

It's the best football book ever written, it's about a time that our supporters regard with great affection and it's in demand. That's why it would sell.

Some of our supporters regard with great affection would be more accurate. And that is what i'm saying, only a small percentage of Villa fans would buy it. A depressingly large amount don't give a stuff about reading about Villa in the 70's. Which is shit but how it is. Look how often we have talked about former players walking on Witton Lane and virtually no one knows who they are.

The grey pound. It's the ald arses who would buy it.

If I saved up my pension I'd buy it.

I'm not grey though. Well, not totally.

Us poor pensioners can't even afford to buy food never mind buying necessities like books about Aston Villa's history. ;)
