.

In terms of trouble, I think the night we lost there 2-1 in 1976-77 dwarfs anything since.

Yes, I remember that one well. Housebricks flying around after the game, running battles all the way back to town
Was it as bad in the 70s then?

I think it was worse in the 70s

It was great in the 70's

I have just remembered another one I went to. A freebie with my old man towards the end of their top flight relegation season in 1986. Sunday lunchtime kick off for some reason, John Bond was their manager, they were already as good as down and they lost 0-2 to Luton in front of about 6,500 fans. It was so depressing I couldn't even enjoy their misfortune. It was hard not to get caught up in the general air of depression. Even though things were far from great for us at the time it made going to the next Villa home game seem like the glory years in comparison.

Was that the game Leighton Phillips got sent off for sticking his fingers up to the ref, and Andy Gray finished the game at centre half?

The old bill were less organised and there were bigger numbers involved

It was. And Francis dived over an imaginary leg to get the winning penalty. I think that incident sparked the mayhem and anarchy from the massive Villa following, although the atmosphere was already on the volatile side.

I remember some DJ on BRMB the next day ( Nicky summat) having been to a store opening in town where Beelzebub had been a "star". He asked him if he had dived and the diving cheat just grinned sheepishly. Subject to my age and memory etc etc.

I have been to many non Villa games there however the first one I went to was against West Ham in the late 70's.  This was because I felt I had to support the team in claret and blue playing against them. Stood with West Ham fans and sha lost  5-1. Great fun that was!

What? Watch football game not involving the team you support? Pretty easy really, you just go and watch a football game.

I actually enjoy watching a game without my stomach being in knots as it inevitably is when I watch the Villa

I've been to a few. The last one was when they played some team in Europe. I have a lot of good friends who support the Blues. Oddly, I met a bloke who was doing some tiling for me down there. It would have been a little dangerous to tell him I was Villa so I let him think I didn't have two opposable thumbs. I kept the whole charade going whilst he did the work for me. Some of the crap I came out with was hilarious. My family took the piss royally out of me for it.

Me too, for reasons far too dull to explain, I'm off to the classic which is Northampton vs Plymouth on Saturday,I'm actually looking forward to it.

The game with non league at the time Cheltenham was odd. We went up on the Villa supporters coach for it. And we took a few coaches.

All manner of mayhem in the local pubs ensued as the bumpkin Villa crew went to work, ably supported by many homegrown lads who had been called in for the party and couldn't be arsed with a trip to Naarwich that day. I think it was them.

We spent the whole game stood next to the fence in the away end singing Villa songs, wearing Villa gear and even had Villa flags in the back of the coaches we were on.

It was an eye opener and Cheltenham should have won. Our Villa contingent were as conspicuous as a turd in a cereal bowl.

Apart from one disastrous vist, only been to see Villa.

Had an ex who was working for Halifax, she was a manure fan, but we had tickets for some Bloose game in one of the boxes. I got staggeringly hammered before i met her in brum, got very close to a bottle of rum in the hosptality, and was rude to an ex-player.

Surprisingly i didn't get dumped, till a few weks later, when i took her to old trafford, and got thrown out celebrating stauntons equaliser.

Good man. I thought that Staunton scored first though and Hughes equalised.
