Neither was as bad as the 1988 second division game, which even Noses of my acquaintance refer to a bad one, which is saying something. One calls it the Vietnam game while another said of it, "You got the feeling all afternoon that if you'd lit a match the whole ground would have exploded."

It's the only game when I've walked through the city centre afterwards, seen the gangs roaming round and thought it was wrong that football should impose itself on society like this.

Pedant alert= it was 1987.

I would know this as it was my 11th birthday, I can remember standing outside Argos with my mom waiting for the bus at around 3 o'clock looking over to the floodlights wishing I'd been allowed to go with my brother.

So we beat Blues 2-1 on your eleventh birthday in 1987.That gives me a nice excuse to throw in one of my favourite memories.Beating them 6-0  in the Simod cup on my eighteenth birthday in 1988.

Final instalment of the '13 goals in 3 games'.

I'd just started senior school, and went to both legs of the league cup. I'm certain that many noses in my year went into hiding after that and only resurfaced as rags when they got back up.

That's the one.
I went with my older brother to that one. I was happy to get into the ground in one piece because as soon as we walked around the corner of the Tilton towards the turnstiles there was a few things going on.

Got inside, and all the lower tier of their main stand was starring at us, this contined throughout the game, it was almost as though their hate for us meant more than the football. Thompson scored the opener and we went berserk. However, it wasn't long before Kenedy scored for them, all be it the ball went through a hole in the net!

Bruno scored again in the second half, cue wild celebrations. Then I remember watching that Ansells clock, wiling it to full time so I could get out of the dump and have bragging rights at school on the monday.

When the final whistle went, there was celebrations then the thought of getting home in one piece desended on us. Got the bus back to the city centre but a few bluenoses were looking at us because we had no colours, it was intimidating. I could hear some of them saying well we beat them 3-2 on aggregate if you add the Villa Park league game onto this match (0-2) thats how small minded they were. Got off the bus and we got shouted at for being Villa wankers! how did they know?

Got our heads down and finally got our bus back home and saftey and hour later. Phew!

In 1979 I was up in Brum and Villa were away, so I went to see Small Heath play Tottenham on the basis that I'd complete my collection of Argentinian World Cup winners in the form of Alberto Tarantini (I'd already seen Ardiles and Villa lose at White Hart Lane to Villa *snigger*). They played Tarantini at left wing (as he'd already proved by that time that he wasn't up to it at left back) and sadly they won. The bast I can say about Tarantini was that he had nice hair.

I was, however, taken aback by the decrepitude of their ground - and don't forget I'd been to Leyton Orient's weed-strewn dump on several occasions and so was used to a very low standard.

I remember being stood in the queue outside the tilton, and a shout went up, probably "Lulu", at which point a load of them, dispersed amongst us, smacked whoever was stood in front of them in the back of the head, and then legged it.

LeeB, we share the same birthday, though sadly I am several years older than you.

That 12 December 1987 game was the most scared I have ever been at a match, as the crush outside the 4-5 turnstiles at the Tilton was terrifying. I got to the ground at 2.15 and by the time we got in at 3.25 it was already 1-1.

In terms of trouble, I think the night we lost there 2-1 in 1976-77 dwarfs anything since.
