It doesn't appear to be the latter, and I think if any of us were in his situation, we'd attempt to take some of their cash with us aswell.

Haven't got any problem with a player wanting his pay-out from his contract. He didn't force them to offer him it or sack the manager who offered it him. If the shoe was on the other foot and the player wanted to leave, Citeh would be compensated with the transfer fee and they still will be in real terms by getting money knocked off the Milner fee. if they want to rip up his contract and force him to a club on less money they have to pay up.

It's easy to put forward reasons why he should walk away from 2 million pounds, but i bet it is a lot harder when you're the person being told to walk away.

err.  He's one of Villa's best eleven players?  And until he signs for anyone else he's a Villa player?  Could that be it?

He's on 80k a week and has 3 years left on his contract hasn't he? You can't blame him for wanting the pay off. Infact it's what City will have to accept as the norm as time goes on because no other club will be able to match those wages when players move on. They give them the huge deals and then want to get rid.

Ireland is right to get some money out of Citeh. Don't blame him one bit as they were quick enough to give such obscene wages and contracts so more fool them.
