What's the point in locking the thread? We can still sign someone.

I still think we'll sign Ireland

To be honest, I'd be surprised if Ireland hadn't been talking to the club today. He doesn't have any international duties, so if there may be points to iron out better to start sooner rather than later. What the skysports story DOESN'T mean is that he's about to sign. As for the managerial situation, I'd imagine that whoever the next coach is, they'd want Ireland for Villa right now, so at least there'd be no problems on that front. It's up to Ireland now.

Another request to close the tread...
It just beggars belief. What causes somebody to ask for a thread about transfers to be locked? Is it offensive? Is there something I'm missing? Is there some secret kiddy diddling discussion going on in code or something?

Do you want to see some puppies?

...of course.

So Ireland has held/is holding talks with us today. Great news. Some cash + a great player for a great player is an amazing deal.

Was it on SSN & the Sky Sports website then, though? I thought that was just people saying with no media backup.

Well, if this is indeed his second visit then it's an even more encouraging sign. Hopefully this is wrapped up soon.

I'm hoping that Ireland coming means that the incoming manager is a bloody good one, otherwise why would he come?  I can't see him belting down the M6 to sign for Bob Bradley

Doesn't matter what manager is in the hot-seat - Ireland's days at Man City are numbered and we want him most. No matter what's going on behind the scenes we're still a top club and he'll still be treated like fucking royalty when he steps out onto the VP pitch so it's all good as far as that transfer goes.

Ireland looking like he's going to still join us has reassured me. I just want this whole Milner drama over with.

If Randy/Faulkner were looking after transfers, then the Milner/Ireland thing won't be affected by any of this. In fact I would bet that MON didn't want Ireland at all, wanted the cash and likely had his own targets in mind.
