This thread will go into overdrive once the new man is in place.

You can just see the bullshit merchants licking their lips at the 'sensational swoops' they can conjure up out of thin air.

Why? If you dont like it, look elsewhere.

Touchy, how the fuck we gonna sign anyone without a manager, its now a redundant thread

I'm not touchy. Why lock the thread?
Presumably we'll sign a new manager and he'll sign new players. In the meantime Randy and Faulkner were conducting deals anyway.
The thread isnt redundant.

The thread isn't redundant, and isn't getting locked.

Let's just chill out a bit.

I'm betting there is money available, and that MON wasn't getting much if it until he sold a lot of trash that's built up. Problem is he couldn't move it out fast enough. I would imagine the new bloke will still need to get rid of the dead wood, but he'll be given his own funds in the meantime to get things going.

Agreed, a year of being over the wage budget is different for a manager fresh to the job than someone who's been there 4years.

Ah, is that right, then? To be honest, while I think Friedel is a good goalkeeper it's hard to think we couldn't find a younger one of equal, or better, quality. I think he's been decent for us, but only occasionally much better than that. Overall, I'd consider him a reasonable signing for us, although I thought he'd be an outstanding one.

I hope you're right, even if it does show Randy to be a bit of a hypocrite, but fear that the wage issue and the 25 player rule will stop us doing much without selling.

If worst comes to the worst I'm sure there are plenty of clubs who would be willing to loan our unwanted squad members thus taking them off the wage bill. Even if Villa contrubuted 50% it would still free up cash to spend on a new stand / centre-forward.

I'm not being derogatory to Fulham, but we're not only a better team than they are, we're probably also paying Friedel a lot more than they would as well.

And as for the Mark Hughes connection, he'd have to be a hell of a nice bloke to make me want to leave Villa for Fulham given that, in my opinion, they punched well above their weight last season.

Why would Friedel want to go to Fulham? I know he's going to look a tit in that new tiger goalies shirt but at 38/39 he should be past caring what others think of him.

I remember when Robson took over Boro, he spent a shed load on new players, yet apparently they were skint while Lennie Lawrence was there. Sometimes relationships just dissolve and this one clearly has. By denying the manager funds, Lerner/Faulkner backed MON into a corner. I think they took away his authority over transfers and in doing so MON felt it was time for him to move on. The new bloke will have the same agenda, but it will be impossible to hire anyone of repute if you're not going to give them money to compete. For the club it would be financially irresponsible to take a step back from where we are right now.
