Why is McGready about as popular as an STD?

Other than the obvious 'because he's shit'.  I have to admit I have never seen him play and I am surprised so many people must have seen him regularly to form their opinions.

Personally I don't think we need a winger, We have Downing, Young A, Albrighton and Bannan, Buying Mcgready would hamper Albrigton's development in my opinion.

But out of those mentioned, they all play on the left, or prefer the left. So, Albrighton as a natural right-winger won't be hampered by the signing of another loeft winger. But I agree with the general thought that we don't need for another winger.

However, for a side who plays with width its not as if we have had much joy down the flanks over the last season or so.

Why are they trying to ship him out? He's one of their few footballers.

They're skint.

For someone who knows more about McGeady than me, does he always play on the wing, or can he play inside? We need someone with creativity, and he can create. A lot of people said Landon Donovan wouldn't hack it when he joined Everton. Too small, too lightweight, plays in the MLS. He ended up being very good indeed. We shouldn't be too quick to make assumptions.

Depends how he's gonna line up though. If he's not after Keane and wants to play 4-1-4-1 with Ash off the front, or even 4-2-3-1 with three rotating behind Gabby then McGeady would make sense and it wouldn't hamper Albrighton's development...

I think Keane would play in effectively a 4-1-4-1 formation. Gabby would be the main player at the front, and Keane would be behind him, interchanging with Downing, Ash and (hopefully) Ireland. There's really not that much difference between a second striker and an attacking midfielder, the distinction seems a little arbitrary to me.

I still think his first choice is an attacking 4-3-3/4-1-4-1 where in some perfect magic Happyland we keep Milner and sign Ireland to play together, but that doesn't seem likely to happen.

The difference is simply in play style.  My personal opinion is that a striker, in any role, has to be comfortable playing with their back to goal.  If you aren't then you're an attacking midfielder.

I like that definition, Paul. In which case Keane is an attacking midfielder.

One point six million pounds per year.

That's around £35k a week. For Nicky Shorey.

You know, MON's said all along that he generally leaves the finances up to Randy. I wonder who had the most influence in that particular contract, as it clearly wasn't a good idea.

we were pretty desperate after that bouma injury in the intertoto.

agents are parasites. must be great to have a dithering manager who plays into their hands and always waits until the last two weeks of the window so they can hold the club to ransom.

I don't necessarily agree with that.  If the player wants a move does it not also follow that they and they're agent are willing to accept less as time runs out due to fear of being left with nothing?  I think it's more a game of brinksmanship.

I have watched him a fair few times for Celtic and a lot of highlights of him playing and for me he doesn't have the basics right in wing play. His crossing is simply nowhere near good enough for a PL winger. He has a few tricks that he seems to get away with solely because full backs in the SPL give him way too much space. If you watch him in bigger matches such as Derbies and European matches he pretty much always fails to show he was terrible against Arsenal last season and that was the level of opposition he has to perform against with a team like us. It's not even giants like Arsenal too it is lower to middle ranking European sides that he does not show against.

That's before you look to factors like him stunting development of younger players like Albrighton and Bannan by taking game time from them, the fact he'll cost a fortune in wages and fees and so on.

As somebody asked somewhere yes he can play inside from the wing. I'm sure he's played behind the striker a few times and even as a striker. However, my preference would be to sign somebody like Keane to play that position or indeed use Ash there.

McGeady isn't even a winger. He's the sort to play in the hole behind the striker.

So we'll go from 442 to 4411.

Great.

McGeady behind Heskey.

20m and Ireland sounds perfect to me. Please please be true. Though cant see Shorey going to Celtic as he has said he wants to stay in the midlands ........

Same here, I'd also like to say that I think Barry Bannan looks to have more potential and the ability to survive in English football than McGeady. Don't see the point in throwing a lot of money at an unproven tricky player when we have one already.

Ireland and £20m would be a real coop for us if it comes off?! It would be even better if we then turn to AC Milan and offer most of that money in return for Flamini and Huntelaar, if we get any change then get Clyne from Palace.

In:
Clyne
Ireland
Flamini
Huntelaar

Out:
Milner

Outlay little to none!

If this did happen would we be able to release, on a free, big earners like Sidwell, Heskey and Beye to attract clubs to pay their wages?

Out - £35K a week
In - £350K a week.

We'll need the transfer money to pay for that bump up, not just the cash reserves from getting rid of them.

Aston Villa are set to enter the race to sign AC Milan striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar who is also being monitored by the likes of Bayern Munich and Tottenham.

One we've heard before I don;t know the website to comment on whether their any good or not, but thought I'd post it to add a little positivity to today's proceedings.

It's one of the worst websites for actually knowing, well, anything.

They got it from the Italian press...Although I don't know how reliable they are either.

From Calcio News

Football Transfer - NEWS MILAN - JUVENTUS NEWS - Huntelaar - Camoranesi - The tag Mauro German Camoranesi more than a compensatory 5 mln for Huntelaar: This is the proposal that the Juventus turned to Milan yesterday afternoon . The Rossoneri would prefer to monetize from the sale of the attacker , for which the 'Aston Villa seems to have offered 16 million . In any case the money from the sale (at least in part) should be re- invested in the market. So the proposal Juventus could be a good compromise and also because the Milan Juventus could also draw from other "cards" , which Poulsen, Zebina and Big.
