Rosicky being linked to Galatasaray. Again, exactly the type of player we need.

Advocated Rosicky earlier in the summer (and er, Kuyt but the less said about that the better). Would be good at the right price, might be capable of giving us what Berger did.

Someone who doesn't run in straight lines at least, that would be a start.

On balance, It's hard to call signing Berger a success.
Far too much time out, and then his wise words re the Barry fiasco.

But for a spell -in fact ever since he came on v Watford at home in early 2007- he offered us a glimpse of what could have been.

One pass in particular that game was sublime, where he looked towards the centre, curved the ball with the outside of his foot into space down the flank for Baros to run on to (and fcuk up, if memory serves).

He also came on v Everton at home when we were losing. It was late March and we were sitting on 30-odd points. If we'd lost that we'd have been in the shit. But Berger comes on at half time, seemingly oblivious to the pressure. Looks for the ball and makes things happen.

Next game v Blackburn he was MOTM, he was decent v Boro away and Sheff United at home was the best of the lot.

That's what we've missed more than anything else. A player who doesn't run in straight lines, doesn't do the obvious and has a bit of guile. We've had long enough to remedy the situation too.

That is my favourite Villa goal of the MON era. That and that goal at home to (I think) Bolton - several exchanges of passes down the left, ending with Barry putting it in for Gabby to score - was superb.

Or was it Barry who finished it off?
