Here's a sobering quote from MON talking about Heskey's international retirement:

"Will that benefit Aston Villa? Probably in the long-run it should do."

So there's a long-run with Heskey. Wonderful.

I can only think of one thing involving Heskey which would benefit Aston Villa in the long run

There are no words yet in existence to convey the sheer severity of my horror at that news.

I liked Heskey, I tried to defend him against the barrage of jokes but that was all in the hope that there was an end in site. That it was a short run.

Tonight I shall dream of McGeady's tricks and crossing failing to get to Heskey who will then spoon it wide/fall over/smash it over the bar. I really should not have had cheese for supper.

You could equally to take that to be fairly non-committal (as per usual) from MON.

He could have said "Yes, definitely. That's exactly what we're hoping for, that we get as many extra years out of him as Manchester United have managed with Scholes...."    AAAAAAAH!  There is no God et.c

Probably. So maybe, maybe not.

In the long run it should do. If he were to stop here. If he doesn't it makes no odds.

That's what I'm clinging to anyroad.

Come on Fat Sam, make it happen.

I don't mind Emile, but it's just so frustrating knowing that 4 years into our new regime we're unable to sign Robbie bloody Keane beause we can't shift Emile Heskey.

We're stuck with him, for what, another 2 seasons?

You just know he's gonna be our new number 9 as well, don't you?

I'm getting concerned that the Aiden McGeady links keep returning. £9.5m was offered by Moscow but he doesn't want to move there. He's coming to Villa, isn't he?

Not for £9.5m according to The Mercury. We won't pay more than seven.

How will the likes of albrighton feel if we spend even £8m on mcgeady- what's the obsession with wingers?

Give albrighton a chance , and address the problems at right back, midfield and striker before thinking about wingers.Roll on next summer when we can look forward to the transfer window with a modern thinking manager in place!

Sounds like the answer to a question from a journalist:-

Journo: "Martin, with Emile retiring from international football, do you think that will extend his playing career and benefit Aston Villa?"

Martin: "Couldn't give a flying fook as I'm flogging him to the first ejit that stumps up £2m!"

I'd rather give Albrighton a chance than sign McGeady.

Spend the money on someone decent.

Jesus sodding H Christ, any chance of some remotely good news stories to do with Villa?  Anything at all?  So far we haven't shifted any of the shite players, City are dicking us around over Milner, and we're going to have to put up with that useless oaf Heskey for another season.

I suppose the only consolation is fans at every other club bar the Manchester Mercenaries feeling the same way. As I've said on other threads, I think this could be a very sobering season for English football and we are going to see some large gaps on the terraces, even maybe at clubs where you just wouldn't normally expect this to be the case. Below the Premier League, there will be huge problems with liquidity and cashflow. It won't manifest itself for the first few weeks, it never does, but once the usual inevitability of it all dawns on everyone, there may be some serious problems to face up to....

David Moyes has said that Everton are unlikely to sign Landon Donovan even though his club appear willing to do business, he was quick to settle in at Everton last season and we could do a lot worse.

Good

We have Young, Downing, Bannan & Albrighton

Why do we need another? We need a damn good centre midfielder and a forward.

This is the most depressing window EVER..So much for the bright future
