Reading on other forums it seems that ex-Blackburn
player Matt Derbyshire is available after a stint in Greece.
I always rated him in the Prem and he is a good instinctive
finisher. Worth a punt on a minimal fee/wages?

Very natural in front of goal, would be surprised if one of the smaller prem sides don't offer him a deal. Think we should have a sniff though. Good player.

It's surely Spartak he's going to, if it was us he could have played as it wouldn't have made him ineligible for us in Europe?

I know football is about opinions, but come on...

Priority for me this summer would be a RB and a defensive midfielder worthy of the name. Tall, athletic, but not a carthorse either. Extra height in midfield would also hopefully do away with the need to fit Cuellar into the side out of position.

I'd love to see Hleb, Flamini and all the rest of it, but I don't think they'd pitch up here even if the manager was keen.

Ireland would have been ideal, someone with a bit of vision who can pick a pass. That one might still come off, but if not we've got Ash, Downing, Delph (later into the campaign) and possibly Milner as creative outlets. With Albrighton looking increasingly impressive too. That's more than most sides. What we need is the platform and security for them to do their thing, so we don't get countered and have sides walk through us. Hence Diame or similar. He'd also help to take the burden of Stan, perhaps freeing him up to be more adventurous in his passing. Stan has that in his locker, but as the usual last line in midfield he generally has to be more cautious. Further up the pitch, or with licence to play the killer pass more often and he could give a different dimension to our play.

If £ is tight, RSC or similar on loan would be ideal. We get a chance to check them out and possibly make the deal permanent if they do the business. If they don't, we're not £10-£15 million down or having discussions about getting them off the wage bill. Everton have played the loans and free transfer market well over the years, and they're of a similar stature to us. Needs must and all that.

Depends on our budget but I'd take a look.

Could give us what Maloney did a few years back, a different option from the bench.

I would have thought if we go for him he would be a replacement for Milner. Maybe Milner is off and its Man C!!

Actually I heard a few weeks ago that CSK Moscow had offered £12m. In which case why wasn't it simply accepted? They will not get more.

Perhaps the player doesn't want to go to Moscow and these days what the player wants, he usually gets, like a move to Brum.
