Just came across this,

Is it bullshit? Or has Martin's dithering cost us?

Probably an alternative to Keane I guess, which probably means we have agreed a fee with spuds

The problem with Mcgeady is that he's yet another winger. Haven't we got enough of them by now. I'm still hoping for big things from Albrighton: I was very disappointed at his lack of first team presence last season after looking shit hot during the peace cup.

Signing Mcgeqdy would bring our winger tally to 7, which includes Milner and Bannan.

This is ridiculous. I'm an advocate of using only one winger, as two leaves us fragile in the middle, unless we play just one striker, but mon doesn't like this.

Very good question about the right back situation. If Carlos starts the West Ham game at right back then... Arghhh

Or we could be realistic and say we have 2 wingers and an inexperienced youngster that looks promising (Albrighton)

You underestimate MON. His big plan is to get Mario to Wolfsburg and  than they will let  Dzeko go, we sign him, and  a top  class striker  comes to VP!

Eduardo has been left out of the Arsenal squad for their pre-season tour.

Injured or on his way?

Wolfsburg signed him before we were even linked with him, the papers were all way too slow in even knowing he'd gone.

Now they're trying to cover their arses.

Keane is going to be our main signing, it is just a case of agreeing terms with Spurs who are not the easiest club to deal with, very astute is Mr.Levy.

Apart from Man City & Chelsea, I cannot see many teams splashing out large sums of money this summer in the PL, Spurs will do some Wheeling & Dealing, Arsenal & Man Utd may sign a couple but as for big transfers elsewhere I can't see it happening.
We may sign 2 or three on a par with Keane but a major signing is very unlikely I would imagine.

I tend to agree with you.  Football is in trouble financially in a big way.  Two stories would tend to back this up, Barcelona not being able to afford to buy Fabregas and the letting go of Joe Cole on a free transfer.

Joe Cole was supposed to be the player that would save England at the world cup (I didn't believe the hype myself, but that's a different topic) and yet nobody is killing themselves in the rush to take him on.  His wages are proving to be too excessive for what a club would be getting.

Cole is not the only player in the situation of pricing themselves out of the market.

I think we should only be looking to replace any first team players that leave and buying a right back, defensive midfield player and a forward.  Beyong this, we should be buying for the sake of buying.

Indeed. It suggest his fee might be a bit more than I'd like.

That's not forgetting all the other things he'll cost us in terms of signing on fees, wages and so on.

It is amazing that people are suddenly becoming very aware of the true cost of a player to the club.

Rather than saying who we should buy, what do people think we should spend on, say, a new forward - transfer fee plus, say, a 3 year contract.  Add to this the value of the player after 3 years assuming we would extend the contract so that he does not leave on a free transfer.

Then we can look at who is available in this total cost bracket.

Or perhaps we should just concentrate on what they'll contribute on the pitch?

If only it were that simple.

It's as simple or as complex as you want it to be.

I just want to be a fan and while I accept that the club has to be run as a business it's the sport I'm interested in and I'm not really that bothered about wages, resale values and all the other stuff.
