Much rather get Suarez but his price will rocket after the world cup.

Why?  Do we need a goalie this season ;-))

I just can't see Suarez happening. He would be the perfect buy for me.
It would be great if we could just lay a 20m offer on Ajax's table. Even if the bid failed it would be a wonderful sign of intent and would undoubtedly raise spirits amongst us fans, perhaps bringing back some of the excitement created four years ago.

Can i see it happening though...can I balls.

There are two reasons why I can't see it happening.
1. Randy won't invest that kind of money on one player?
2. Martin would not want to spend such money on one player? Has ever bought a big time player?

I'm definatatly swaying towards the latter.

Perhaps this would stop us ever signing Huntleear, if reports are true.

Had a quick chat with my *friend* and he didnt say much , but Keane is looking very probably..   Did mention might be something going on with Crouch, would be very suprised If we got both but maybe its definitely one of them coming..
With Keane looking favourite.

So that's a definite maybe then (winky thing)

Keane and Crouch for Carew plus cash anyone?

Yes.

Defo. I reckon both Keane and Crouch on there own are at least worth double big John. Arry would probably want 20m off us.

Can't see Crouch coming back. I would like Keane at the right price, but would want him aswell as another striker: Suarez, or Forlan, or Huntleear.

This would make me happy.

Sorry, but anyone thinking we stand a chance of signing Forlan or Suarez are in dreamland.

Making a bid for a player you know will be rejected in order to keep the fans happy is exactly what that shower of shite down the road do.  We should be and are better than that.

Hopefully it wouldn't get rejected John. My point was that we should try and sign him and if it failed then there are postives to come ouyt of it. I think it more likely he'd want to go elsewhere.
Just having been in the race to sign a player like him would make people take notice of us and would indicate to the fans and other potential signings, that we're aiming to finish higher than sixth this season.

Who have the shit bid for anyway? Charles Nzogbia and Ryan Babel are the only ones I can think of.

Not exactly in Suarez's league.

They bid £12m for some Brazillian wonderkid a few weeks ago.

Firsty, I don't think even £30m would get him new and secondly, I disagree it means we're in the race.  I think we'd just look a bit foolish.

Bidding £12m for Huntelaar who we could get would be much better to me.

Definitely agree, John. There's no point in fruitless gestures that wouldn't even solve our problem if it weren't fruitless.

Agreed. Forlan reminds me a lot of Dean Saunders but he would cost top dollar, way too much for a guy in his thirties. Suarez on the other hand is a rising star and will be snapped up by a Champions League contender for big bucks.

Fair enough. I think it would be great to have a go though. As i stated earlier, I don't think he'll come either and I see Huntleear as much as a much more realistic option.

But, I still think it would be great to have a go.

Did you think, after the Martin's appointment and Randy's takeover, that we would be in the race to sign these kind of players? Four years into it?

I must admit I believed in the dream but after four years, there hasn't been a drastic change, which most expected.

Anyone having a half decent World Cup will have a list of clubs offering them daft money to play in the Champions League.

We can't offer either at present by the looks of things.

Well another good link just appeared on Newsnow

Axel Witsel

I know we've been linked before, maybe January was it? I know he's a complete nutcase, but a very good nutcase to boot. Would be brilliant in the Prem. He and Ireland would be the perfect replacements for Milner, absolutely fruitloop midfield, but exciting all the same!

edit: ...and we'd have change to spare from Jimmy's sale, imagine getting

Huntelaar £12m
Ireland p/x
Witsel £5-8m

all for the price of Milner! Not bad business IMO

I'd like to ask you a question John. As you dominate this particular thread most days and that I read you you to seem mostly postive about the direction the club is taking. Did you think, after the Martin's appointment and Randy's takeover, that we would be in the race to sign these kind of players? Four years into it?

I must admit I believed in the dream but after four years, there hasn't been a drastic change, which most expected.

Also, do you attend Villa park.
