have we actaully been linked yet with someone good enough to walk into our side?

Stephen Ireland. But I'm not really bothered about links. They're not an accurate representation of reality at all. Sometimes theres something in it, mostly they're as sincere as Alice in Wonderland.

No, in all honesty.

I've read links today to Dorrans, Onohua, Collinson and recently to Eduardo and, of course, Keane. They'd all be good squad additions and I'd argue a couple of them would start but you're right - still no real star player to get everyone buzzing.

The links in relation to us that have some truth about them tend to only appear a few days before we actually sign the player, mainly as we play things close to our chest.

Even Ireland hasn't been that strongly mentioned with us, just that bit at the end where the journo will list six possible clubs he'll go to, of which we will be one.  I think it just seems like more of a 'story' due to the Milner stuff and us often commenting he should be part of the deal.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule, this time I think it's Robbie Keane, who we've been heavily linked to for a while and I think we will ultimately sign!

The longer pre-season is going on, the less enthusiastic I'm getting about next season to be honest.

Re Boateng: it's a tough call. When Spurs signed him, he had a pretty strong reputation but never got going there. He looked very good in fits and starts for Pompey last season and, again, at the WC he has looked sharp. Obviously, he's playing for a move so the concern would be this: did he just lift his game for the tournament?

That's where I would stand on the matter, and like John I'd have doubts.

Not just based on his form last season (which was actually good pre Christmas). He left Tottenham somewhat under a cloud, and was accused of being a troublemaker. After his injury last season he spent a fair chunk of his time back in Germany too, and the suggestion was that he was milking it.

In fairness, his first Pompey boss Paul Hart said he was no trouble at all and couldn't understand where those rumours came from, so maybe he 's just one of those players who needs to be loved. Like the mid 20-30 year olds going on 4 who play for England perhaps.

I'd say he's a risk, even now.

But at £2-4 million I'd have taken a punt, and said as much last Dec. No guarantee Pompey would have gone for it, but they were keen to reduce the wage bill and needed anything approaching a transfer fee just to stay alive at that point.

Now they're not in such dire straights, and KPB's performances have had a global audience so I think it's fair to say he won't be going for a knockdown fee.

On his day he probably is an £8-10 million plus player, but I'm not sure he has his day often enough to justify that level of investment. And with question marks over his temperament I'd probably avoid.

I'd be really pleased with Collison. He's a young player with a hell of a lot of promise.

We have plenty of those already - I think we should be after the finished article this summer, or at least someone pretty close.

But as I said, wouldn't argue as a replacement for Sidwell.

Same.

If we're after young players from West Ham, Noble seems to have a bit about him.

Or maybe he'll just wrap his 9 iron around 'Arry's face and improve his looks.

I know out of those two scenarios which one I'd prefer.

Kyle MacLachlan is also on this golfing trip so maybe they will have a chat about Twin Peaks.

I know out of those two scenarios which one I'd prefer.

If he tells the Martin that "The owls are not what they seem" I'd hope it would be MacLachlan's head the 9 iron gets wrapped around.

Maybe MON could use the Mullholland Driver to inflict the damage.

Collison?? Not sure about him. I guess if he's good and does well he'll end up at Man City in two years time for a squillion quid.
