Why would we sell Davies cheaply?
He's a good player. Potentially very good and with his best years ahead of him.

I'd say he's a good player on his day, but there's always a (good) chance he'll have a nightmare.  At 25, his progress appears to have stalled, and he is now 5th choice in his position at Villa. £4m-£5m would be as much as we could reasonably expect to get back.

I can't see Davies ever being a first choice defender for us again.

I'd offer £2m + Davies for Keane.

I dont know, we have more luxurious resources at centre half than most clubs. It doesnt mean we should be generous with them. How much would Davies be going for if he was first choice at Bolton or Sunderland? He'd walk in to most Premier League defences. At 25, he wont even be in his prime for a few years.

Thats my view anyway. I dont even really want to sell him but we could afford to let him go. And if we do we should be looking for a decent price.

i wouldnt sell him.. if his shoulder is 100% fixed, then he can get back to the excellent form he showed before the injury...

I'd value davies at £4 m and offer him plus £4m for keane- would be a good deal for us as we'd get a very good striker and lose a player who is 5th choice .

I'd agree, but as Maz says we're well stocked in that area and if it meant losing him and gaining a player in a position where we are lacking, without troubling the transfer budget, then I'd say that's a great bit of work.

Davies would make an excellent right back, I hope we don't sell him.

i can see the logic to that, but if we are to get rid of a defender, i would rather it be cuellar...

davies offers us something different at the back, whereas cuellar is quite similar to dunne and collins...

and personally, in my opinion, i dont think cuellar is particularly good...

I think Cuellar is actually the best centre half we've got.

But fair enough, it's all about opinions.

Straight swap between Davies and Keane sounds the fairest deal to me, taking into consideration age, position and the needs of both clubs.

Edit: Plus if we get shot of Heskey to Stoke for £2m then we will be quids in too, with probably £25k off the wage bill. Good business!

The problem with negotiating with Spurs is that it won't be Harry Redknapp you'll be dealing with, it'll be Daniel Levy. He'll ring every penny out of whoever ends up buying Keane.

Then we walk away and move onto the next target. I like Robbie Keane, I think he'll do a good job for us if we get him. But if the price starts going above £7-8m then we have to consider there's better value elsewhere, even if it means spending more money.

Correct.
