6 months out is pretty long term i'd say.

You'd say. But a broken bone in the foot doesn't usually come under what I'd consider to be a serious, career threatening injury and I doubt I'm alone in that thinking. If Downing had ruptured his cruciate knee ligaments, or ruptured his Achilles tendon, or badly broken his ankle, then that would have been a major gamble on our part to sign him before seeing him back in action.

What I'm saying is, I'm not sure how much the injury affected Downing's performances... and how much was just down to Downing himself. He's never, fully fit or otherwise, been the sort to terrorize defences and rip them apart, he's more about quality delivery. Don't expect a vastly transformed player next season.

Just following the usual pattern init.

JUNE

"Don't worry, all the players are on holiday/world cup/golf trip. we're waiting for the right player/deal/irishman to become available before buying. i won't pay over the odds/will pay over the odds/ for the right/wrong player"

MID AUGUST

"Ladies and Gentlemen, may i introduce you to Villa's new record signing, Mr. Robbie Keane"

Is it me, or is there something slightly desperate about wheeling out Chris Nicholl to ask fans to be patient.  And the Mail are endless in their supporter goading.  Where is the widespread unrest alluded to here?  And yes, Wolves are busy strengthening, what a damn shame we missed out on a relegated midfielder from Hull.

I don't think it's a case of him being 'wheeled out' - probably just he was doing something else more in line with his job and a journe asked him the question!

I had hoped that once Bill Howell had gone, we'd get somebody with half a clue about whats going on at Villa, its fans and behind the scenes. But this Matthew Kendrick seems to be no better. In fact, he just seems to have no idea at all and regurgitates shite he's read in the tabloids.
Maybe he's a bluenose?

Very disappointing. Even greg would do a better job.

Perhaps its just that the paper is a hopeless rag that will never again be of any worth at all.

yeah but a long term injury doesn't just affect your body. take your point about his style of play and i don't think he's ever going to be top class, he's more workmanlike imo

Just because you don't like something you read doesn't mean it's "shite" and its writer clueless. For example you've just written something that's not only inaccurate but you could also have checked out in a couple of minutes. Lazy joumalism?

There's nothing particuarly newsworthy happening today. The Mail still has to report Villa stories. How would you fill its pages?

Downing looked decent when he came into the team but seemed to fade from march onwards quite badly, my main concern is his habit of bottling tackles ,maybe his injury is playing on his mind but I hope we see the best of him next season.

If I think something is shite then in my opinion it is shite. Just because you disagree with me, it doesnt mean it isnt shite. What have I written that is inaccurate by the way?

Matt Kendrick is a Villa fan and used to contribute to H&V I believe. It still doesn’t mean his story is much cop or that the Mail is anything other than sub-standard toilet paper.

Mat Kendrick, former H&V contributor and the fact is regularly mentioend often on here, is hardly going to be a Blue.

Well, I didn't state as a fact he was a bluenose. It was more a harmless dig than anything else.
But I havent read anything from him I could not have read in the Mirror two weeks prior. Which is pretty dismal in my opinion.

He has (also my opinion) completely misunderstood the meaning of Randys terms with the sell to buy thing. And where is this call for calm coming from and why? Where is the panic over transfers? I sense none at all. He should know that surely?

What would I write? Something better, something more relevant. Something more accurate. If I was employed by that publication of course.
It's not this one article anyway. Its been shite for years.

From the outside looking in, it appears the paper with its ever dwindling readership and subsequent falling revenues it is now only able to employ relatively low paid and/or low quality reporters.  And with that it seems mob rule has taken over in the form of Blue nose favouring Tattum.  I realise that traditionally Blues fans have bought this paper a lot more than Villa, but I cannot escape from the conclusion that it has, in recent times (I liked Bill by the way) plumbed new depths of biased reporting and piss taking.

Ah, right, it was a harmless dig. Not stating a fact at all. "Some supporters are frustrated" is what was written. Judging by this thread alone, it seems a pretty fair assessment.

It's easy to say you'd write something better or more relevant, but it's a slow newsday. It'll be a slow news fortnight. This is an interview with a former player who knows the manager well. It's a spacefiller. In the circumstances it's the best we'll get.
