Aye. Never really thought he'd make it here and the injury made that certain, but he's a decent player. He'll do well there.
Good luck, young man.

I really thought Sidwell would come good.  Maybe he needs the games, but I think you have to force your way into MONs first eleven, and he hasnt done that.  I have high hopes for Downing.  I hope I havent hexed him the same way.

If you think about it this is going to be Downing's first full summer training. And we all know that can do wonders.

I'm not expecting him to be the next Ronaldo, but I've got expectations that need to be filled by a £10m winger - and he's not filled them yet.

buying Downing crocked was a bad judgement call. you never know if someone with a long term injury will return as good as before.

Absolutely - but Downing cracked a bone in his foot; it's not an injury I'd class as long-term and there are certainly more serious ones so I didn't particularly think Downing was a risk because of the injury. More from the point of view of whether he was worth £10m in the first place - I've always thought him steady rather than spectacular.

Delph, however... well, I do have concerns over how he'll recover from his injury. That is a serious one.

I dunno where all the Downing bashing come from personally. I thought at times he looked quality, at other times completely fucked.

Pretty much exactly what I expected from a player who'd been out for so long.

He'll be a firm fan favourite next seaosn I've no doubts at all.

Which leaves the question, who will become the next scapegoat for the small minoirty who just have to have someone to moan at on a match day ?

I'm having a random punt on Collins.

6 months out is pretty long term i'd say. would have been best to have let him return at boro and see if he's right first rather than investing 10m and all those wages on a crocked player. delph was ours so what do you do? bad luck i guess but he's young which is in his favour

If Milner goes (which I hope he doesn't) then I wonder if we play just the one up front MON will play Downing to the left of Petrov (or NRC) in midfield.

Interesting. I'm having an outside bet on Warnock, although Petrov would be a contender as he's worn the mantle well in the past.

Maybe we should have a poll. We could let greg pick the winner.

I thought when we signed Downing he could be used in the middle, but having watched him I don't really fancy him in there in a two, maybe in a three I suppose.  I think he'll do fine next yr by the way.

Is it me, or is there something slightly desperate about wheeling out Chris Nicholl to ask fans to be patient.  And the Mail are endless in their supporter goading.  Where is the widespread unrest alluded to here?  And yes, Wolves are busy strengthening, what a damn shame we missed out on a relegated midfielder from Hull.

The thing with Downing is he's either a poor-ish player or a good one taking time to get over an injury and/or settle into a new club.  As long as that fairly reasonable doubt is there we should be waiting to see what he produces next season and not write him off.  Not that that will stop some, of course!
