We have to be realistic with the type of players that we can sign, of those mentioned Keane is the best footballer.
He is a clever player and links the modfield & forwards well, the key is getting him for the right price.

Wolves were among the lowest scorers and he played upfront on his own, didn't he?

Still, I don't really want him, but I'd prefer him to some we've been linked too.

Typical MON, like with Luke Young.

Wait another year and pay double.

Doyle has a better than 1 in 3 career record.

I don't have any stats to back this up, but I'm gonna hazard a guess at his prem record being not as good as 1 in 3.

Dunno but he got 9 in 33 last season which is pretty close to it and that in a side that created few chances.

Would you be happy to pay Mick McCarthy's asking price of £15m, for a goalscoring record like that?

I'd take Keane. Like i've already said, he'll be a bit different to what we already have. As for Doyle, Wolves will want a fortune for him, especially if it's us buying him. I'd rather persist with Fonz than splash out silly money on him personally. I'd let Heskey go and have Carew, Gabby, Keane and Fonz as our strikers.

To be fair to Doyle, he did well in Reading's Prem season before the one that Mark mentions (maybe 12 or 13 league goals?), but I don't think his overall prem record would be much better than 1 in 4.

I'm in the Keane's not past it camp so I think Keane would get 1 in 3 or better for Villa (I'm sure his overall prem record must be around that figure) and would create more goals for those around him than Doyle would.

As would I. If Carew does end up going, then I'd prefer Rodallega for 10m to Doyle for 15m

Linked with Gregory van der Wiel today. Suppose it's unlikely, but he'd probably solve the long-standing right-back conundrum.

Beckford has signed for Everton.

I've got a feeling he'll do Ok there.

Keane is probably worth holding Fonz up a bit for, Doyle is not. I wouldn't want him being picked ahead of Fonz. So why why buy a player who would rarely figure? Dont we need a bit better than that? Dont we need goals?

As for notions of £15m and being better than Carew. Well I am clearly thinking on another Kevin Doyle as the one I know is hardly worth £5m. I dont give a toss what Wolves would want for him.

Just in case its in any doubt, here is my stance on Doyle:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with this.

We currently have a plan B that is the same as plan A.  We need a plan B that is different to plan A, something that Keane would bring.  Plan C involving Fonz needs to be used far more next season, otherwise Fonz will start to go backwards with his development as he loses interest.

Keane would be a good buy but only up to a certain value, beyond that we should be looking for a younger player.  That value I would put at around £7-8m.  For that we would probably get two good years out of him and a resale value of £3-4m, which I would say would be good business.
