Does anyone think Beckford's worth a punt?
Don't know if he's been discussed.

On a free, i don't see a problem. As long as someone proven arrives too.

The only problem with bringing in someone like Beckford is that it might hold Fonz back a little. It's time we started to give him a few more games.

Any fans of Italian football on here? I was thinking Zarate could be exactly the sort of fwd we need. Although he does seem to have only scored 3 goals last season!

£15 million asset in 12 months time, Swiss CI's cast iron guarantee.

Personally wouldn't bother with him, but MON might find a place for him on Thursday nights alongside Salifou and the rest in the UEFA. By all accounts Moscow didn't perturb him, and he's keen to treat the comp as an irrelevance again unless we get to the latter stages.

We can't sell Milner. I've not had chance to wear my Che/Jimmy t-shirt yet!

He said he would use the competition as a chance to give some of the younger players a chance. It's weird that he gets criticised for not rotating and also when he does.

Wouldn't be too enthused by Beckford myself, would much rather see the Fonz given the chance to develop as it's pretty clear he has potential.

We need someone upfront who can help us break teams down, esp against teams who sit back at VP - reckon that was what cost us most last season. Need a way through the middle rather than relying so heavily on crosses.

Don't even think who we bring in needs to be a 20+ striker. If they can get 10-15 themselves while generally improving the ability of the team to score goals I think that would push us on.

Love how West Ham are linked with players, yet they don't have a manager. Gollivan strikes again.

I'd actually call it predictable, rather than weird!

I think he made in clear after the Moscow fallout that he'd let the fans know his intentions well in advance, so that they could make an informed decision as to whether to travel or not.  This is exactly what he's done/is doing.

Personally, I'd like to see him mix it up by giving the kids a run out WITH the senior players.  They'll  learn more that way, we stay more competitive and it gives some players a break.  The team I'd like to see for the first Europa game would be something like:-

Guzan

Lichaj
Dunne
Clark
Warnock

Albrighton
Petrov
Bannan
Downing

Carew
the Fonz

whats Milner on 35k a week?.

Man u or MAn cunty will give him a 4 year 80k contract.

I think the lad needs a rise in wage, if he is on 35k.

I don't think he "needs" a wage rise, I manage on a little bit less than that.  Agree that we'll have to take our wage structure to its limit to keep hold of certain players but I still believe (naively?) that there are some that just want to play football.

I agree re blooding (well, they've already been blooded, some of them, so more like "using") the kids in the Europa League.

Difficult to make suggestions on line ups, mind, as it will obviously  depend on who we are playing against, and what is going on in the league at the time. If we have a duff league season, I'd expect to see more senior players playing in Europe as we re-prioritise it.

If, on the other hand, it is a first round match against FC Wheelbarrow of Riga, then throw the kids in.

It's weird that we would slog our guts out for a season to get into Europe, only to then treat the thing with more disdain that the League Cup.

I think when the 'r' word is generally used, it's with the idea of giving the likes of Petrov and Dunne a rest in lower profile games, or picking the likes of NRC against opponents that might be more physical.

Not dropping our best players for the big games and packing a starting XI with players that usually don't get anywhere near the first team.
