I have a sneaky feeling we might go for Boyd. I also have a suspicion that it could be the transfer of the summer. While he would add nothing to our approach play and certainly would not appease the masses, I just think having his goal scoring ability waiting on the bench for tight games could be absolutely invaluable next season. For me, I'd like to see him brought in along with this mythical second striker we've all been looking for. It would be affordable and I think it just might work!!!

He wouldn't get in the team then unless they had a few players injured.

I'd still say, at his best, he's better than Huddlestone. But the gap is closing, especially given Barry's strangely lacklustre form for City.

I'm not so sure. On his game Huddlestone is a good player. Pretty much battered our midfield at VP.

edit:
Heard numerous reports that Boyd is nailed on going to the Shite down the road.

don't see where huddlestone would fit in. he's just signed a new contract and he's not better than what we've got

We're not suggesting signing him, just comparing him to Baz.

For what it's worth, I sort of agree with you, except that he's different to what we have. More comparable to Barry than Milner, Petrov, Delph etc.

he'd cost hardly nothing in fees, the wages would be offset by the shirt sales but i take your point. if there's 15+m to spend on a striker by all means, i just think we'll end up spending 10m on someone no better

Can you do some accounting for that here, greg? Show us what you think he'd be on and give us an idea how many shirts Villa would need to sell to make up that salary?

I'm just interested to see just how many extra Villa tops you think will seel on the strength of signing a past-his-prime ex-Arsenal striker.

Huddlestone is better than what we've got. Not better than Milner of course but better at screening the defence and picking passes.
Waste of time speculating about that now though. He wont leave Spurs and they wont want him too.

Barry of two years ago would have got in the Spurs team but now his star is fading and Huddlestones is rising. We have had the best of Barry, no doubt.

But I still say Milner can be our (and Englands)covering midfielder and we can get a playmaker in to play in front of him.

He would sell a lot of shirts as well as other tat. Not to mention season tickets. Its been a long time since we signed a big name, and never in Henry's class. The media and sponsership interest would go through the roof. I realise the drawbacks (age, wages), but faced with a manager who's run out of ideas, 100k for 2 years for Henry looks a better option  to me than 10m and 60k a week for 4 years for Doyle, Keane or Zamora. Anyway, there's more chance of Ivanhoe winning the golden boot than  MON wanting Henry.

I'd rather we bought in a 'quarter back' style midfielder to act as the playmaker and allow Milner to get forward more.

I can live with that too. But somebody like van der Vaart in front of Milner (and eventually Delph) seems a tad more correct to me.
But as for the quarterback. I think Kim Kallstrom would be ideal for this. Free in the summer too.

like to see us move for henry if the money's tight. cost very little, would pay his way in shirt sales. Rather that than pay 10m for someone like  Keane, forlan  or bellamy with a limited shelf life anyway.

think he will stay at Wolves mate  ;-))
