I can't seriously believe some of the crap being suggested here - Robbie Keane, Andy Carroll, Kenwyne Jones, Rosicky, Doyle....grief, we might as well stick with Carew and Heskey. Better the devil you know and all that

Disagree on Carroll. I think he's going to score a lot of goals in the Premier League, especially if he plays in a decent side.
Obviously he's not a ready-made, straight into the team superstar striker everybody wants though.

It's not a superstar striker we need, it is someone who can be relied on to supply goals. At least some of them.

Jones and Doyle have both scored 8 this season. Caroll has scored 17 in a team which has romped the second flight.

Regardless of their individual merits, I can't see any of those delivering what we need, certainly not any more so that Delfouneso would do.

Maybe, But in the he was almost sold to Hull and didn't go. He lashed in how many for West Ham a couple of years ago and never hit the heights again and was sold to Fulham. More then likely he is having a good season when everything falls right.

2 months ago I would have said the same thing but he's impressed me over the past couple of months. If he can do that consistently for us, he would be an excellent signing.

I'm thinking of Carroll more for a year or two away. I wouldn't want him as the only striker in.

We definitely need an immediate solution in the goalscoring stakes.

Indeed.

If we're going to sign a player on the basis of how many goals they score in the Championship why not just re-sign Peter Whittingham and stick him up front.

For Kenywne Jones, read Emile Heskey. Avoid like the plague.

The only English (gettable) striker I would go for would be Zamora but there must be plenty of gems we can pick up in Europe which would look like bargains.

I'm sorry OCD, but if your going to avoid Kenwyne Jones, you have to avoid Zamora. He's had a good season, but he is nowhere near good enough at all.

It depresses me when i read some of the names on this thread, are we still
into regurgitating players? havn't we learned any lessons over the last nearly five years, we will not improve unless we have a top scouting network and cast our eyes further that Great Britain.

I'll be very suprised if we aren't in for Carlton Cole, he's MON all over.

We need better though. We need to make the more adventurous signings that Everton and Spurs make.

Prefer  to  see  us  "hone"  our  players  tbh.  Rather  than  buy

          the  finished  article.

That  said,  nowadays  potential  is  just  as  pricey.

          Difficult  market  to  be  fair.

          Berbatov  -  £30 mil.  Kenwyn Jones  -  £12 - £15mil.
          Defoe - £12 mil.         Darren Bent - £10 mil.

          Bobby Zamora - peanuts.

12  months  on  and  those  prices  have  changed  quite  a  lot.

Moyes  at  Everton  often  gets  good  value  for  money.

Yet, paid  a  fair  wedge  for  Andy  Johnson  and  Yakubu  and

neither  set  the  world  alight.  Still  need  their  bargain  buys

Arteta  and  Cahill  to  look  a  good  team.

It  almost  does n`t  matter  who  we  get,  it  depends  on  what

mon  can  make  of  them.  More  Milner`s   and  less  Sidwell`s

           please.

Heskey out, Forlan in to make up a striking pot of 4 with Gabby, Carew, Delfouneso

Back up option would be Bellamy, with added Bent if Carew moves on

That said, why we'd move on a striker who's bagged 17 this season would seem odd. In this day and age very few strikers get 20+

OK, a lot of these are players we all know, but what about this summer and the world cup? I'd like to think MON will be looking at some of the players there who do well. He really need to raise the bar on the level and type of players he goes for, not saying we'll get them but nice to know he is looking....

I think Jamie O'Hara, Kevin Prince-Boateng, Carlton Cole and Scott Parker would all enhance our squad and are all realistic shouts. If MON has the money and his sights on better quality than those I'd be delighted.

Agree they would, but for me its the quality thats the problem. Not the squad. If we signed a top class defensive midfielder and an equally superb creative one, then we'd rotate and have current first teamers as bench options rather than Sidwell/NRC etc
