What I'd like to see:

Forwards:
Any one from

Llorente
Suarez

Midfielders:

Any one from:
Rosicky
Ireland
Alou Diarra

What we'll actually see:

Keane
Doyle
Scharner

To be fair, the more i think about it, the more i think Robbie Keane is exactly the kind of player we need.A good link player, good footballer, who might have that bit of spark around the box.

Would'nt pay more than £6m though.

After watching sats game, and seeing a lot of the crosses going uncontested, would Andy Carroll or KJones improve us?

I wouldn't be suprised if we're after Owen at some point.

Either Injured, shit or most of the time both recently. I would steer clear personally.

Good shout.

I could see us revisiting that one too.
Though I read an interview with him earlier in the year where he said he'd rather not be a guaranteed first choice in a successful side providing he could still feature in some high profile games, than first choice in a lesser side.

In the wider scheme of things, it would be good to nail 5th next week (there might already be a thread devoted to this, in fact).

It might (just might) improve our chances of attracting a better quality of player. On paper 5th/6th/7th is no huge difference, but if we can claim 5th and finish just a few points off 4th we can sell the club to prospective targets on the basis that "We got close last year, with you in the side we can go all the way."

No to Owen.

Injured yet again despite not playing too much this season.

I also don't see the sense in having two 30 + forwards on high wages who we won't get too much for. We already have Heskey and Carew so don't see much point in selling one of them and getting in Owen.

Keane is playing  in the SPL for a reason and the reason is he is not good enough to play for a top 6 club in the PL, Carol maybe he is young and could improve KJones cant get in the Sdland team.
if we are serious about top 4 we need to be setting our sights a lot higher

I can't seriously believe some of the crap being suggested here - Robbie Keane, Andy Carroll, Kenwyne Jones, Rosicky, Doyle....grief, we might as well stick with Carew and Heskey. Better the devil you know and all that

For Kenywne Jones, read Emile Heskey. Avoid like the plague.

The only English (gettable) striker I would go for would be Zamora but there must be plenty of gems we can pick up in Europe which would look like bargains.

Zamora has had about three good seasons in 10. This is one of them.

And possibly the sign of a player who has finally matured and can reproduce on the higher levels.

Maybe, But in the he was almost sold to Hull and didn't go. He lashed in how many for West Ham a couple of years ago and never hit the heights again and was sold to Fulham. More then likely he is having a good season when everything falls right.

I fully concur.

None of those players are anything like good enough.

Keane's time has been and gone.
Carroll is a big thug who has managed to score a few in the second flight, and will probably be banged up soon enough in any case.
Jones has an entirely uninspiring record - 8 league goals this season.
Rosicky has obviously not cut it in the English game
Doyle has looked unspectacular in one relegated side, and one shit side.

We need a striker to push us into the next level, the Champions League. I'm at a loss as to how any of the above can possibly be enough. They're all players of the standard we could feasibly have been linked with four years ago.

Disagree on Carroll. I think he's going to score a lot of goals in the Premier League, especially if he plays in a decent side.
Obviously he's not a ready-made, straight into the team superstar striker everybody wants though. And yes, there are questions over his conduct.
