Lots of players have convincing goal records and can't then reproduce it in another side/league - I think there's more to it than that!

Someone with a convincing scoring record either here or abroad. that way you'd at least know he was capable of doing it

Any names?

well we all know the english based ones. the foreign ones are just pointless discussing.

true but its better than buying someone who's never done it. If you want the finished article its going to cost you.

I don't think they are.

Given that the better goal scorers in the PL are unlikely to make an at best sideways move to us, I think we HAVE to look abroad.  Bent is the only possibility, but I can't see him moving after only one season at Sunderland.

Why are you so reluctant to name who you think we should go for?

Cole for Heskey and someone like Podolski or another striker from Germany. They're pretty physical there too.

I'm assuming he says they're pointless discussing as MON will shop at home again.

I bet we sign Carlton Cole.

Not particularly. At last count, a Bundesliga player gets on average 2.4 seconds on the ball, the most of the five major European leagues, whereas in the Premier League you could expect 1.3 seconds before you had do distribute or be tackled. As for Podolski, he's remarkably found a way to be off even that pedestrian pace, so I'd steer well clear of him personally.

because its highly unlikely he'll look abroad. Even the media don't bother making up stories about foreign players linked to us anymore. you're quite correct that we have to look abroad. Personally i'd be looking at the europa  type clubs in the major european leauges for a striker. If not i'd move on to the CL clubs of the smaller leagues. then i'd be looking at international strikers from ouside the EU that qualified. Surely there's SOMEONE better than spurs' 4th choice striker?

Are you saying we shouldn't sign Bent because he was Spurs' 4th choice? Even though he's out performed all their strikers this season? Is that what you're saying?

It's not quite as simple as individual vs. individual. Bent is flourishing at Sunderland, but was clearly out of place in the Tottenham system, and for reasons similar to the ones I've set out in the past as to whether he might struggle for us - I agree with Collymore, he doesn't quite have the intelligence, movement or anything approaching a rounded game that is so necessary at the top-level. Even Defoe has worked hard to add other attributes to his natural game - Bent I suspect either hasn't tried, or hasn't been able to.

Was he what?

Are you talking about Darren Bent or Robbie Keane? Who are you referring to by saying Spurs' 4th choice striker?

So you're saying we shouldn't be trying to sign 24 goals in 37 appearances, third highest scorer in the league this season, Darren Bent because he isnt foreign?

I think it's a matter of a side playing to a striker's strengths.  Spurs never did that with Bent and Sunderland are, hence he's scoring so many.  And lets not forget his goals to games ratio wasn't bad for Spurs either.

For what it's worth, I agree that he doesn't have a great all round game, but then neither does Defoe, IMO.
