Darren Bent would cost too much now unfortunately. If it was anything less than £20m though, and we could afford it, I'd pay it.

He's as near a guarantee of 20 goals a season as we could realistically get. It would have to be some special kind of deal to get Sunderland to agree though. Maybe if we palmed Shorey, Beye, Heskey and Sidwell off to them plus cash, Bruce might be interested. It depends how much he's got to spend.

It makes you wonder what might have been had we bought him last summer.

He seems happy at Sunderland, but I would like to think we would have appealed to him more than going up there.

It annoys me to say we would have wrapped up 4th place. That's my opinion.

Before the game on Sunday Merson said that he thought we needed a "number 10" to knit it altogether and I agree with him. A player, like Merse himself, who is part second striker part creative midfield player. To me that would give us far more flexibility than just another forward to run the channels which is, in essence, what you get with Bent albeit one with a good scoring record.

Someone to unlock Gabby. Agreed.

Tuncay would have been worth buying. I can't remember how much Stoke paid for him but he might have offered us something different coming off the bench at least.

he was £5m but higher wages

not sure on Tuncay but Merse is spot on, how good would a fit 28 year old Merse be in this side, supporting Gabby with Milner

I'd love us to have a go for Steven Pienaar if he did become avaliable. Persuading him to leave Everton may be slightly difficult though.

I'm not too fussed about him. He looks alright for a few weeks and then pretty average. I think we can do better. I think we have better.

Pop down to Villa Park and have a word. I'm sure he's still rolling around the pitch in agony.

if you was really going to go to Everton then the player would be Arteta, not sure he will be going anywhere whilst Moyes is still there

If I had a choice I'd have Rodwell. But he would also be very difficult to pry from them.

Completely agree. I think it needs to be more of a Dwight Yorke / Carlos Tevez than a Paul Merson/ Van der Vaert though.

Really stumped as to who. Having paid a bit of attention to Rodallega, I'm not convinced.

Even though I rate Pienaar, I'd definitely prefer Arteta, Cahill or Rodwell. However Pienaar seems like more of a miserable git, and therefore is more likely to want to leave.

A clever forward would be great, Carew and Gabby offer for the ball and can protect it well and move it on at times but their general movement is well below what you would expect from top top strikers.  Blues had a guy on loan a while back, Zarate? someone like that would be great, Gudjohnsen might have been good.  In a perfect situation we would buy a player like this and a goalscorer like Bent to complement Carew and Gabby, loan the Fonz and sell Harewood and Heskey.  Big man, fox in box, pace and no.10, not gonna happen though.

Frankly I would like to see a bit of a freshen up all over, lose Sidwell, Osbourne, Salifou, bring in Noble and Diame and another winger.  Bring in Clyne and Westwood as well, lose Marshall, Beye, Shorey.

I can see Beye going back to Newcastle now they've come back up.

Yep, Ive called that one too.

I wouldn't mind him being a down payment on Carroll either.
