Yes I agree Kevin. with the quality etc. However I still think we need to shift 8-9 players. Say they are all "squad players" get in 3-4 squad players to replace them such as Bullard. Then buy 2-3 "franchise" players in the positions we need such as Right Back and Striker. Just my view.

That's a really good post evalast, thanks for taking the time and trouble.

Regardless of the individuals speculated on, I think it shows that there is scope to improve without massively increasing the wage-bill.

No problem and thank you.

I'd have Delph on the bench tho ;)

I see what you're saying chap.

But I'd be very wary of bringing in a player like Bullard.

Wrong side of 30, injury issues and high wages, especially for a squad player.

We've been there before.

We should be looking at two top drawer players minimum this summer and possibly 1-2 players early-mid 20's with the capacity to grow and develop into top class players further on down the track.

I'd like to see the transfer dealings giving us three first XI players and of your list I would only see Berbatov as fitting that description. Richards wouldn't be much of an improvement on Carlos for the right back berth in my view. His passing is awful.

I see the Bullard comment guess the first player that came to mind. Maybe someone like Steven Ireland then who has also been suggested.

So which three positions would they be? I can honestly only see Right back and Striker. The only other position would be an improvement to Stan which I don't think will happen until next summer at the earliest.

You don't think we need a more creative midfielder?

Creative midfielder/second forward for home games, upgrade holding midfielder, tall mobile forward.

We already have an international grade right back in Young but as MON clearly doesn't like him then he could do with getting someone there as well. But this is my team, not his.

Bullard would be fairly cheap at maybe £3m and we should get that for sidwell.

Lots of rumours here about keiron westwood coming to us for around £4m-very good keeper from what Coventry fans tell me.

Striker wise we need to spend big and attract real quality -Santa cruz and bellamy may be available at city but we need to offload at least heskey.

No point selling too many squad players though as if in Europe we may need that squad a lot more next season.

In order of priority:

STRIKER -
MIDFIELDER-
GENUINE RB-

First one I don't think anyone would argue with, second one is a bit more open to debate. Not as to whether we need a midfielder or not, rather what type of midfielder we need.

The general consensus seeming to be we need a creative one. Personally, I think we need more lungs and muscle in the middle of the park, someone with a nasty streak. Ideally also 6ft+, as much of our game relies on set pieces. A player of that ilk might let our existing players do what they're good at. Outside of the very top clubs, other sides probably look at us and think any midfield with Petrov, Milner and Ashley Young in it should be creative enough.

RB, I agree. Though I hope we could do better than Richards. A taller defensive mid as suggested earlier might do away with the rationale for playing Cuellar though, and could result in Luke Young seeing more game-time.

If they go down, it could be even less.

There is also Geovani there who can produce that bit of magic, something out of nothing. Not the type you'd necessarily build a side around, but a good option from the bench.

As I mentioned earlier, I'd be wary of loading the wage bill with too many of that ilk. But if we've managed to shift a fair amount of the deadwood this summer, one player of that type would be OK.
