Milner (at the time).

I fail to see how anyone can be 'overpriced at the time'. They either are or they aren't based on the value that they give for the money paid.

Was Ronaldo overpriced? Henry? Torres? Rooney?

When we signed Milner, I didn't think he was worth the reported £12m.

Nearly 2 seasons later I've seen much improvement and good return for the cash and I do think now he was worth £12m.

Simples.

So to sum up, he was worth what we paid and therefore not overpriced.

Yes. At the time I thought we'd paid too much. His performances have proved me wrong.

We overpaid for Milner in the sense that Newcastle were reportedly happy to accept £8m until we blundered in and opened with a £12m offer.

Looks like Joe Cole can be struck off anyones wanted list! lol

Just as a matter of interest, how much would experienced goalscorers like Eto or Forlan cost these days? Both players are about 30, so should we be taking a gamble on younger foreign "undiscovered" players or paying over the odds for ageing proven goalscorers?

I would say the former but I just don't see us identifying these kind of players.

We could always use a bit of reverse psychology and release a statement that it looks like we could well lose our most valued striker as Heskey is asking for £140,000 per week and, much as we'd hate to see a competitor for a Top 4 spot grab him, it looks inevitable.

Mancini strikes me as the kind of dumb fuck that'd go for that.

As for who we can get in....I dunno. We're gonn have to look overseas, innit?

Can't see Droopy selling both him and Keane and I can see one of them going.

I'm coming round to the thought of Scott Parker. Think he'd be the ideal pivot in our midfield.

Berbatov would be my main choice upfront, but don't think MON would go for him.

As a goalscorer from the bench to replace a Harewood type, what about the lad at Burnley - seems to score a fair amount  of goals and more importnatly always gets chances

A right-back and a creative midfielder are my priorities. Possibly a sub-on striker of the type that Ozzjim's suggested, but we should focus our resources on creating the chances in the first place, then we can decide whether our finishing is genuinely inadequate or not.

No idea if it's true or not. That's why I said 'reportedly'

MON really needs to step it up this transfer window and shift the deadwood and bring in some quality central midfield / forward players.
My transfer wish list is as follows:

Centre Midfielders: (with a bit of guile / creativity)

Manual Fernandes (previously on loan at Everton)
Sully Muntari
Pitr Trowchowski
Yossi Beneyoun (spelling???)

Strikers:

Miroslav Klose
Diego Forlan
Hulk

More realistic strikers who i wouldn't mind: Kevin Doyle, Martin Paterson

Milner was worth every penny of the 12m.

Can I say the same about Downing. Not at the moment so up to him to prove us wrong next season.

That's what annoys me most about 'Onest 'Enry this season. He wanted rid of Pavyluchenko. He was slagging him off in the press in the same way he did to Darren Bent last season. The only reason he didn't go was because Blose and that Russian club wouldn't stump up quite enough cash for him to be able to put a down-payment on another extension for his Sandbanks mansion. It wasn't a great plan. The twitchy twat got lucky. Again.
