I fail to see how anyone can be 'overpriced at the time'. They either are or they aren't based on the value that they give for the money paid.

When we signed Milner, I didn't think he was worth the reported £12m.

Nearly 2 seasons later I've seen much improvement and good return for the cash and I do think now he was worth £12m.
