Exactly the kind of midfield player we need, a sort of NRC/Petrov hybrid who can tackle, run all day and yet pass the ball reasonably accurarately? Tick!

And even.... a track record of filling in as an emergency full-back? Tick!

I saw the article that linked it, thought it unlikely and then considered that the only thing I can really remember about Flamini was a wonder goal and my memory going “cheeky bastard only put in one season and then buggered off to Milan!”.

So it wasn't a serious analysis and I'd probably welcome him here. So I guess what we learnt today is that really, I was a hippy all along!

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but Raul is avaliable on a free after being released by Real Madrid. Worth a punt?

Maz, its a formation I think can work for home games as well. You ask Young/Ireland to play an extra ten fifteen yards further forward than he would away from home. With players like that I think they’d cause immense headaches with their movement inbetween the bus parkers midfield and backline.

hardly scored a lot last season. suppose on a free its okay, but a bit pointless at his age imo.

Flamini was rubbish at Arsenal has one good season and they were peed off that he went on a free when they could have gone for about 10m.

Now, he's being dumped by Milan and we think he's the one to lead us to glory? No chance. I wouldn't give anything but a shrug if he joined although I'd get that shiver of excitement when anybody signs for us at any level.

Hleb? Maybe but he's as much of a sicknote as Ivo Stas.
