Think i'd lose the will to live if we bought Keane. Past it, let him rot in spurts reserves

I've just seen Chris Smith speeding towards Villa Park on the A1 southbound. Robbie Keane was in the passenger seat.

Very amusing last two posts. I do like Greg though, wouldn't be the same on here without him and he can take it as well as dish it out, which is great I think!

Not sure you will get much agreement with that view Greg but I sometimes think the same things as you but am too 'scared' to say them for fear of setting off a bun fight on here. So fair play to you mate. I think one can detect a certain affection towards you on here, even from those comments above!

Chris Smith used to be H&V's Voice of Reason. Look what happened to him.

I'm fond of Greg in the same way I'd be fond of a Monkey Butler.

Is gregnash H&V's voice of reason in the same way that Terry and June was a 'comedy'?

Keane is the only domestic striker I can think of that would improve us and we could realistically get.  But the age thing does concern me!

Not for me thank you, and certainly not at the price Spurs would want for him and his salary demands.

I think we need a player of his ilk, but not him. At the moment I'm struggling to think of a suitable candidate.

Rude to quote yourself I know, but... Matt Derbyshire for a British alternative to Keane.  Young, European experience and would be a lot cheaper so saving funds for the big signing.

Problem is that I feel the big signing needs to be a striker!

We have Gabby already and the Fonz coming through, so it's predictable that one of Carew or Heskey will go and someone new come in, leaving us with a healthy 4 fowards.  I don't see where a player like Deryshire would fit in?

Derbyshire as an option wouldn't be the worst bit of business in the world, but we'd still need a top class forward.

John, I think both Carew & Heskey could go, and in a way I hope they do and we replace with someone like Derbyshire and the big signing.  I'd want to see skill and pace as essential and if he's big like Drogba all the better but not a prerequisite.

Not having a big lump would encourage us to play less of the big hoof, play through the middle more and hopefully encourage the wide men to cross with purpose rather than hope. Against Chelsea last season Gabby scored a wonderful goal from a Young cross, anticipating it rather than waiting and Young hitting it a knee(ish) hight rather than head.  I would like to see more of that.

I can dream.

I can't see both going, but if they did I wouldn't argue with Derbyshire as a reserve alongside the Fonz - aslong as we did get a new top froward to play with Gabby!
