My wanted list would, in an ideal world, include a creative (probably big budget) midfielder, a right back that MON actualy has faith in, possibly another left winger to put some pressure on Ash, and at least 1 top class striker.

In reality, I'd almost settle for just one of those next season.

If you could get Andy Reid playing like he was in the first half of the season he could be that creative midfielder we are looking for.

I would love if we got Rodellega also.

Dont think it would cost too much to get the 2 of them, but not sure if it would be enough to break top 4...athough Rodallega has the potential to be world class.

Boateng from Pompey or Etuhu from Fulham for some extra legs in midfield, as well as a sreative player and a forward.

Would have said Boateng earlier in the campaign, but this is the second club he has left under a cloud.

Midfielders I'd be looking at any two from:

Alou Diarra at Boredeaux, Scott Parker, Rosicky and Sami Khedira at Stuttgart.

Rosicky or a player of that ilk would give this team a different outlook. Can play either flank, coming from deep or even up front on occasion. Under normal circumstances, it should seem a non-starter. But he's 29 now, has had his injury problems and Wenger might just decide to cut his losses if he received a good offer. He's got plenty of players of that ilk already at the club, and no doubt will have more coming through the ranks.

Haven't had that kind of player at the club since Patrik Berger, and even he was more miss than hit over the duration of his three years with us.

What's he done at Pompey?

I’d like and I think we’d get...

Who?

1) Robbie Keane from Hyperspurt.

Why?

As I believe there is ten plus goals in him and that he’s different to all our current strikers. He’s not reliant on pace and he has excellent movement off the ball, be it dropping off the front man or in the box. I think we are too static at times. I also think he’s got a bit of craft to his play where he can beat a man or work a twenty yarder every now and again. Variety is key.

How much?

I think he’d cost between £7 million and £9 million.

Likely?

Very. I think he’s on O’Neill’s radar.

Who?

2) Yossi Benayoun from Liverskint

Why?

He’s the only player I can currently think of that offers that Berger type role, where he can float out wide or sit in behind the front men and link midfield and attack. I think he’s chock full of craft, guile and ability on the ball. I think that he offers excellent movement off the ball, like Keane, and would add another string to our attacking bow that would aid us in our quest to win more home games against the bus parkers.

How much?

I think we’d be looking at £8 million

Likely?

Probably not. I think Liverpool will be in for a shock with their lack of Champions League football and that players like him would be available and gettable. I just have no idea whether O’Neill would be interested. I’d hope so in a player like him or his type.

Who?

3) Scott Parker of West Ham

Why?

Despite the perilous predicament of the Hammers, I think he’s a good player and has had a good season. I think he’s better than NRC and Sidwell and would offer us the ability to switch him around with Petrov to keep the midfield fresh. While he might not have the same range of passing as Stan, he keeps it simple and keeps the play ticking over, while perhaps having more legs in him too.

How much?

I think we’d get him for around £6-7 million

Likely?

I think so yes. He’s a player that I think O’Neill would be interested in and that he’d improve the quality of the squad.

There’s three players I’d start with looking at.

I'd look at Witsel from Standard Liege as the midfielder.  I really like Milner playing central and want to see what he does with a cleverer forward infront of him, so I'd be looking to upgrade Petrov to a more dominant player who can also play a bit.

Upfront we all know we need a better striker.  We can forget the superstars out there, so I'd look at the next bracket down and try for Huntelar or Love.

We need a extra player in the Milner/Ash/Downing category to allow for true rotation, so I'd look at getting Joe Cole on a free.  I'd class this as doubtful without CL football, so maybe Benayoun as someone else mentioned.

We don't need anyone at the back really speaking, but a RB that could give the physical presence of Cuellar, but be more a specialist, would solve that little problem.  I've always rated Micah Richards and he fits the bill.

Kalinic was very impressive for Blackburn in the matches he played against us, and would offer a different option up front.

Scott Parker - especially if West Ham are relegated.

A Bid for Dirk Kuyt wouldn't go amiss either.

Andy Carroll.
Scott Parker.
Stephen Ireland.
Theo Walcott
Boaz Myhill
---------------------
Heskey
Sidwell
Beye
Harewood
Shorey

I know the lack of a big name striker will make some of you scoff but I think Carroll is going to be ace and a long term replacement for Carew. I'd also play with two wingers and a striker quite often and I reckon Walcott will be surplus to requirements at Arsenal soon. They dont play to his strengths and we would.

Alternatively I'd love to do something out of left field like sign Berbatov, who'd relish being the big man again and link up our attack. If he'd be prepared to come. I know its unlikely but why not have a go. We obviously wouldn't be paying £30m for him and I reckon United might be open to some sort of silly structured deal that just got him out of their hair.

Then they can go and get Benzema or something.

I actually like what Kuyt brings to a team.  He's a good support striker that offers great work ethic and team play.  Unfortunately, we need a goalscorer and that isn't his strength, although when he scores they seem to be important ones.  If we already had the goalscorer and needed someone to play alongside him, he'd be a decent shout!

I could never see Berbatov happening.

Manure might take a hit on the TF fee, but not to the extent that we'd be in the game.

MON also likes his worker bees, so can't see him forking out a club record fee and wages on a player who is the very definition of causal.

Kuyt on the other hand isn't the worst shout in the world. Unlikely, but not impossible. He's often played out of position at L-pool, but still weighs in with his fair share of goals.

Probably not the goalscoring machine many would wish for, but would offer a bigger goal threat than Ivanhoe (not hard) and decent CL experience. The type of player we'll need to ultimately bridge the gap.

Could see Liverpool selling either way, either to raise funds or -even if they secure investment - to improve on and get better.

Only concern I would have is you would be dealing with a player who might see us as a step down. It's generally better to get players who view you as a step up, and bring that drive and determination to improve further.

I dont want Kuyt regardless of how he'd see us. We have better wingers and he's no better than what we have up front. Not as good, actually.

No better than Agbonlahor or Carew and I wouldnt want him holding the Fonz back. Kuyt wouldn't come to warm our bench even though he isnt good enough to sit on it in my opinion.

Maz has quite correctly blotted that player out from his memory.  Let us never speak of him again.
